4.7 console install

Ok so I seem to be having a bunch of troubles installing the new 4.7 console.  I was upgrading from the 4.5 version and somehow its all jacked up now.  When I go to install it gets to the screen where it asks for the custom or complete install, when I click on the complete install and next it starts for a second and then comes up with a error.  "The installation procedure cannot continue as user account SophosUpdateMgr already exists.  Please see KBA 61397 for more information."  So after looking 61397 over I deleted the SophosUpdateMgr account out of AD and tried the install again to come back to the same message.  Any ideas?  This is the first time I have done a Sophos install and I'm already not liking it....

    Is the server a DC? If not check if SophosUpdateMgr exists as local user and also check HKLM\Software[\Wow6432Node]\Sophos\EE\Management Tools for the value SumUserName.

    After a few hours with Sophos on the phone we got it straightened out.  I didn't think about the user under computer management.  I also maganged to screw up my DB so I got to start from scratch, good learning experience though I guess.  But now my update manager isn't updating.  It says "Software Delivery Failed", when I view the details it has the error codes 80040401, 80040410, 80040404.  So now I'm trying to figure out the new problem, any ideas?

    How scratch was scratch? Usually these actions are suggested and won't do any harm. Your Source is Sophos, I assume? For 80040410 please see also this article but likely it won't give you any more insight. Do you have any subscriptions besides Recommended (which products did you subscribe to?) and are you using any shares other than the default?

    Scratch as in clean install start all over :smileysurprised: Im in the process of running the the fresh download as specified in KB66157 that your referenced.  The only subscription I have is the Recommended, not sure what else I should subscribe to.  I'm still new to Sophos and learning on the go.  Not sure what you mean on the shares other than default?  I'm going to say probably not.

    I see.

    You'd use additional subscriptions to select specific product versions (like 9.5 vs. 9.7). When a new version is released (i.e. one of the first two numbers changes) it "lives in parallel" with the previous one. Both versions are updated for some time until eventually the old one is replaced. During this period you can explicitly select the new one. As you may want to test it before deploying it throughout your network you need a way to use both versions. If you look at the available versions for Windows in View/Edit subscription you'll see (among others) 9 Recommended, 9.5 Recommended, 9.7 Recommended. Looking at the details you'll find that 9 Recommended is the same as 9.5 Recommended. Eventually it will be changed to signify to the 9.7 version. 9.5 Recommended will be still be available for specific selection for another few months. Thus you have more control over when to upgrade your clients.

    By default the CIDs are written to \\SERVER\\SophosUpdate\ but you can configure additional shares. They can be local or remote. I'll spare you the details for now.

    Thank you that was very informative, so I followed the KB66157 and of course that didn't work (that would just make things easy).  Any ideas on that?  The information under the source information for Configure Update Manager, should that be the user name that starts with the EM from the licence schedule or the one thats listed for Download?

    Your credentials are correct - you would have received a warning when entering them.
    Time for a look at the logs. If you search for sumtrace and logviewer in this forum you'll find quite a number of posts dealing with them. Sorry that I can't be more specific at this point.
    Is your Warehouse polulated and is there anything in the CID(s)?

    Warehouse is populated, CID contains a folder called S000 and inside that folder is 3 more folders ESCOSX, SAVLINUX, and SAVSCFXP.

    Then it's basically working.

    I'd start with LogViewer.exe (in the ...\SUM directory). Select Severity: Error. Likely you'll see "groups" (i.e. with same or almost same timestamp) of errors - the bottommost of a group is usually the interesting one. You'd then take a look a the SUMTraceyyyymmddThhmmss logs and locate the timestamp (note that these 4 logs span only a few hours so you can't search for errors from a few days ago).  If it doesn't make sense to you feel free to post the "suspicious" lines here (note that there's a limit in this forum - if you want to post larger excerpts upload them at some site and link to them).
