Problem unlocking Quarantine Manager

Sophos detected a threat (OSX/VSearch-A), but when I went to Quarantine Manager, I was unable to open the lock in order to clean up the threat. Why would it not unlock?

  • There have been posts on this board about this problem.  Try:

    • Close the Sophos app (Cmd + Q to quit), and then reopen it by selecting it from Applications instead of from the menu bar.

      OR...
    • Logging out and back in.

  • Aha!  Thanks for this.  We are having a spate of reports from our Mac community concerning this problem.  Sophos pops up a box when a threat appears with a button "Open Quarantine Manager...".  This does as it says but the padlock doesn't work.  Quitting Sophos and opening from Applications enables the padlock to work.  This is really going to annoy our Mac people!

Is there a bug fix on the horizon?

    Thanks,

  • Note:  Edited my previous post to read that you either open from application OR log out and back in.  I take it that you only had to do one or the other and not both?

Which version of SAV are you running?  Is it 9.0x Home Edition or the non-Home Edition?  The article below explains how to work it out...

  • Sorry, should have added the extra bits.

Opening the Quarantine Manager from the pop-up means one can't unlock the padlock.

Quitting Sophos and launching it from /Applications, going to Quarantine Manager and clicking the padlock produces an authentication prompt.

I have just tried logging out and back in again and, when the file is touched and the pop-up appears, that produces a Quarantine Manager window with the padlock already unlocked.

I was working with the eicar file, in zipped form.  In fact, I have just cleaned up the "Virus", quitted Sophos and re-unzipped the eicar file.  Now touching the file doesn't even prompt the Quarantine Manager to appear!  However, opening Sophos there is an exclamation in the Quarantine Manager button and there is the eicar file awaiting attention.

I don't think this is satisfactory.

We are running Version 9.1.6 and it is not Home Edition.

This is the wrong fourm then.  All the posts on here are from Home Edition users and all the advice is geared towards the home user.

  • Please accept my apologies.  I Googled, found a link and posted without noticing this was the Home Use only forum.  I shall open a communication with the Tech Support team.
