Cannot access PureMessage Administration Console

Hi,

We use Sophoe PureMessage on our SBS 2008 server. when trying to investigate missing mail this morning, i have found that i cannot access the administration console. i get the following error message:

"The administration console is unable to connect to the PureMessage service on the local server

The error code is 0x80070005"

I have checked to ensure that the service is working, have restarted the service, and ensured that user permissions are correct.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tim.

  • Hi,

All apologies for the delay. Did you go through the steps providing in this knowledgebase article? The error you're seeing is tied to Sophos Puremessage Administrators group that should have been created when Puremessage was installed.

Let us know if this helps out or not; I would recommend forwarding any consequent errors to our support team.

    Thanks.

  • We have a similar problem .

Since we removed Enterprise Console 3 from a secondary server, we can't access the PureMessage Console in the Exchange Server (running Windows SBS 2003) . In the secondary server we installed Sophos Control Center (it's a Sophos SBE license) and we manage both the clients and the Exchange Server for Antivirus tasks etc . But when we try to access the Pure Message Administration Console we get an 0x80004005 error

    pure message console error

PureMessage works in the background normally, we log in the user's quarantine web interface, messages are processed normally with the options we have set previously etc..

It was running version 3.0.2, we upgraded to 3.1 yesterday, bu we still get the same error ..

    Any suggestions ?

  • Hi,

Perhaps I'm not clear as to the situation, but I'm not sure how removing the Enterprise Console from one system would impact the Puremessage console unless the console was installed on a remote system. Is that the case?

At the very least, based on that error, communication between the console and the database appears to be impacted, so I would restart all the appropriate Sophos Puremessage services one at a time and then try re-launching the console. If that fails, you could always remove the Puremessage console (not the services, but just the snap-in) and reinstalling.

Otherwise, I would recommend working directly with our support team since we may require some additional logs and event viewer entries to help isolate what may be going on here.

    Thank you.

  • Server A, had the Enterprise Console

Server B (SBS 2K3) had the PureMessage Console .

everything worked smoothly till December 31st when we upgraded the Enterprise Console from 3 to 4.x on server A (and afterwards removed enterprise console, and install Sophos Control Center on Server A)

after that we can't acces the PureMessage console on server B .

Puremessage works fine, we can't log in the console to change anything or view something.

p.s. trying with Sophos Support but we haven't got an answer yet after a month and more, just keep sending logs everytime, without any help for solving the issue ..
