[7.003] Prefetch is no longer working

Debugging can be activated in 

/var/mdw/scripts/pop3. Set the value of the param "--logmask=" from 15 to 31 and restart the proxy (/var/mdw/scripts/pop3 restart).

We well see tomorrow where the problem is.

I switched off prefetch and pop3 proxy for one day, then re-enabled it.
As you can see, there is one error message repeating .

Does anyone can confirm that behavior? 
Does anyone has a clue to fix that?

My fix in the past, for v7.002 and earlier was
1/. disable prefetch and pop3 proxy
2/. open a port (packet filter)
3/. leave it open for a couple of hours with your e-mail client active
4/. after you are happy that you have all your e-mail disable the packet filter rule
5/. enable pop3 proxy
6/. enable prefetch


Don't disable then enable prefetch, it gets totally out of wack and you get strange results. Leave it for at least 2 days before you pass any judgment. If you decide not to use prefetch after all repeat steps 1-5.

Hi Guys,

the problem only occurs with a few "special" pop3 servers and Windows Outlook/ Vista Mail.

As workaround you can use for example Thunderbird as new mail client.

The good news are, the isssue is already fixed and is tested from our QA at the moment.

thanks for the answer. Well im using thunderbird, so in my case it`s probably the special webserver. What can be so special with a pop3 server?

[7.003]  I was having a problem with with two of three computers that refused to receive email from a Road Runner POP3 server when prefetch was turned on.  Email from Earthlink would always work.  It took me a while to figure out what was different about the one computer that allowed it to work properly.  It had the free version of Grisoft AVG installed with email scanner enabled.  Apparently AVG inserts itself between Outlook Express and the internet, and somehow fixes whatever the problem is.  The two computers would stop at "Authorizing" until the connection timed out.  After installing AVG on them, they also have no problem with prefetch.

I don't think this issue was fixed with 7.004.  I still time out with prefetch enabled.  I agree with the AVG work around, because that is what is installed on all my machines that work with prefetch.

Trying to be smart, I uninstalled AVG from my main machine to test 7.004, and sure enough, Outlook 2003 timed out during authentication.   So I reinstalled AVG, and it still times out! ARGGG!  The email scanner on AVG with the outlook plugin is active, but I still can't get my mail.

Any Suggestions?

Yes, I agree with you. The problems are still there.

After prefetch and pop3 proxy turned off for 4 hours, and then switching both on again, i got this log.

As you can see, at this point i haven't downloaded a message, but got the first error.

After trying to download my mails, i got this error:

There are no additional errors in the logs and no email is received by my mail client (thunderbird 2.0)

I'm experiencing the same issues.  This is fairly disappointing as the entire I reason I spent today updating astaro from 6 to 7 was the promise of pop3 email proxying.  Now I've had to turn it off because with prefetch disabled the downloads are so slow it was unbearable, and with it on I wasn't getting any email on 3 accounts and one account wouldn't connect.  :s Are there any updates to when the fixes will be released?

Release [7.005] has been installed and the bug is still there. 
Damn, it's dissapointing.
