Unable to re-install UTM 110/120 "no appliance hardware has been detected"

Hi,
after a Hard Disk failure, i replace the HD of a UTM 110/120, i'm trying to install a fresh image, but i'm getting "no appliance hardware has been detected".
Obviously i'm using the Hardware ISO image !
I tried to install it with the Software ISO image, installation finish fine, but after the reboot Ethernet interface doesn't work (no line goes up).

    Is the drive an RMA unit that you got from Sophos, or just some other drive you had lying around?  The Hardware ISO install process does a hardware check, looking for the correct components based on model.  If it finds unrecognized hardware, the installation will fail.

    I've had the failure to recognize hard drive occur in the past. Was able to work around by using DBAN to wipe the replacement drive first.

    If you use the software image then the NICs are probably detected in reverse order (port labeled eth3 is actually eth0, etc.) search forums for details on how to resolve.

    The Hard Disk is a OEM version
    I check all the nic, but never get the led on

    There are hardware checks at installation time. If you use a different hardware (harddisc, RAM NICs, ...) the installer will not recognize the box anymore.

    You can use the software image but NIC sorting is most likely incorrect.
    Which revision of UTM120 do you use?

    Hint: try 'if up eth0' and for all NICs to check which NIC is right one.

    I install SW version again and than check all interface and found that are random numbered but working.

    I realize this post is a bit old, but I had the same error message when trying to reimage, although not with the same circumstances.  I wanted to post here in case someone else has the problem I did, because this is one of the first results in google.

    We upgraded from the utm120 to the utm320 at work, so I decided to play around with the 120 by installing pfSense on it.  To install pfSense, it required me to go in the BIOS and set the HD controller from Enhanced to Compatible.  When I went to reimage with the Sophos CD, it gave me that "no appliance hardware has been detected" message, but then I remembered the change in the BIOS I had to make, so I went in and set it back to Enhanced->AHCI.  Tried the install again, and it worked like it was supposed to.
