UTM Home Hostname

it depends.  I set my hostnames to local domain names and use the hostname override in the remote access section if needed.  This configuration is for if i am not configuring the machine for e-mail proxying.  if you are using the e-mail proxy then yes i set the hostname to an internet resolovable fqdn.  It depends on your network setup.

You still need to set the hostname to something internet resolvable as the MX record has to point to the utm or e-mail doesn't work well.

I think that only public IP is required, MX record is defined in external DNS and can be different than UTM local hostname.

setting the hostname inside the webadmin as the internet fqdn is required for proper operation of the UTM for e-mail filtering.  Use the smtp override if you need a different hostname internally.

Hmmm, I have several UTM in production with different local hostname than MX record.

MX record points to the public IP address by mail.company.com, and in advanced section mail.company.com is defined as SMTP hostname.

For all SMTP communication (HELO/EHLO and banner) UTM uses overrided name, it never use its local hostname.

well I've seen issues with mail processing going that route.  If it works great but it is not the recommended configuration and not the configuration that IME is the most trouble free..[:)]

nopers.  if you want ot use remote access you can either set the hostname to the dyndns or an internal one and use the hostname override for remote access..[:)]

I currently have dyndns setup on my dlink router, but when I put in the UTM in I will be setting the router to bridging mode so will dyndns need to be setup on utm instead?
