Unable to update Home UTM from 9.304-9

When I attempt to update from the 9.304-9 update I am getting the following errors in the update log and the update is failing. I am curious what I may need to do in order to correct the issue so that I can update the UTM. It seems as though the wrong update package was downloaded.

    You are currently running Version 9.304009, but Version 9.211003 is required for this up2date package.


    With you being on 9.304-9, package u2d-sys-9.211003-304011.tgz.gpg shouldn't even be on your system, nor trying to install.  It is though and that's why your updates are failing.  From the shell, check /var/up2date/sys and var/up2date/sys-install for references to the u2d-sys-9.211003-304011 update and delete them.  

    Use Sophos UTM - 9.2xx to 9.304 up2date fails as a guide.  If you follow the commands in the kb article as written (ending in /*), you'll wipe out all pending updates, but your system should re-download just the 9.304-->9.305, 305-->306, and 306-->307 again as long as your have automatic checking enabled.  Do not run the wget command in the article, it is a file you do not want/need.

    Thanks for the assistance. I followed the instructions to remove the files however after re-enabling auto updates it just downloaded the 9.211003 file again. I guess since it was the oldest update it attempted to install it first no matter which I selected in the list. I decided to just manually download the 9.305004 update and upload it to the UTM with auto-updates still disabled so that it wouldn't download the 9.211003 update again. Doing this allowed me to update the UTM to 9.305004. It is no longer downloading the 9.211003 update after re-enabling auto-updates so I guess there was something in the 9.304009 update that was confusing the up2date downloader. Thanks again.

    Hey guys,

    I'm having the same problem, but can't fix it with the steps described here.
    Trying to update two UTM320 in HA sitting at 9.304-9.
    The automatic update downloads the package 9.211003->9.304011 (probably because 9.304011 is higher than 9.304-9, so the system thinks it "needs" that package)

    When hitting the update button, the update fails since i'm not running 9.211003.

    But even when I set my update download to manual and delete the 9.211003 packages on Master&Slave via command line, the system always runs audld when clicking the update button, downloads me the wrong package and tries to install it.

    Hi, Tachikoma, and welcome to the User BB!

    It's tricky with two units in HA.  I've done it the purely manual way several times and I don't recommend it.  Instead, I'll take a different tack here...

    First, go to ftp://ftp.astaro.com/pub/UTM/v9/up2date/ and download the u2d-sys-9.304009-305004.tgz.gpg, u2d-sys-9.305004-306006.tgz.gpg & u2d-sys-9.306006-307006.tgz.gpg files into a PC from which you can access WebAdmin.

    When you can arrange a 15-minute window with the internet disconnected, Disable the WAN interface in WebAdmin.  The article for which Scott supplied the link above indicates that an alternative to disabling the interface is to set the 'Firmware download interval' to "Manual" on the 'Configuration ' tab.  You might try that first instead of the Internet shutdown, but we know that the shutdown works.  Please let us know what you did and your results with the following.
      Log into the command line on the UTM and run the rm commands in the article.
    • Log into the Slave with ha_utils ssh and run the same rm commands there.
    • In WebAdmin, go to the 'Advanced' tab of 'Management >> Up2date' and upload the three Up2Date files.
    • Go back to the 'Overview' tab, confirm that the three Up2Dates are present and that none other is, then apply the latest version.
    • As soon as theUp2Date has been accomplished on both units, enable the WAN interface (you will have to login again).

    Hi Bob,

    thanks for the assistance!

    I am recreating the customers setup with two UTMs I have flying around right now and will try updating with the internet connection disabled.

    Is there maybe another way to stop audld from downloading the wrong package (even when set to "Manual Download") after clicking the update button?
    Maybe editing the static update server list I see referenced in the logs oder changing the prefered update server via audld --server  ?
    Has anyone ever tried that? [8-)]


    Oh, and I'm also having a problem right now with the update package sync. The slave only has 1 of the 4 packages, even though the log states that the sync is functional.

    Is there a better way to sync the files to the slave than copying them manually via scp?

    Give the Master a little time to send the u2d* files to the Slave.  Don't try those other tricks. [;)]
