threat detection update fail.

right this may be hidden somewhere on here but i have been looking around all day and so far found nothing that links directly to the problem i am having so i hope you can help.

when updating my SUM i get this msg:

19/02/2013 15:46:18 Error Synchronize operation failed when synchronizing the protection data for product release 'Windows Endpoint Security and Control'. Details: Cannot create stream C:/ProgramData/Sophos/Update Manager/Update Manager/Warehouse/15513

i have checked my share folder security settings and i have all the correct permissions that i can see, i have tried stopping and restarting my update services. i have tried backing up the folders and recreating them to no avail.

please give me a hand :)

  • Hello athion,

this is from LogViewer, isn't it? The corresponding SUMTrace log might have a little bit more information. As SUMtrace wraps pretty quick it's best to check it shortly after a (manual) update attempt.

  • Hi Christian

sorry for the late reply! how do i go about putting my log in here to show you as your post keeps telling me that the content from it is not allowed in this community?

  • Hello athion,

last time I checked a post was limited to about 20k.  Anyway there shouldn't be too many interesting lines. So just copy/paste a block of them (please make sure the linebreaks are there) - it shouldn't be to hard to spot the error messages to select the relevant lines.

Another option is to upload the files to some sharing site and include the link here.

  • Thanks, athion

Where does this SUM update from, directly from Sophos?
Anyway, the error doesn't ring a bell. So I'd suggest what I had initially in mind anyway: Stop the SUM service and empty the Warehouse and Working folders. This should get rid of any potential inconsistencies. SUM will (try to) download and decode everything anew. Hopefully it will work then. If not it's probably easier to get to the root of the problem.

  • yeah it does come directly from sophos.

ok i stopped the service and cleared the warehouse and working folders and still got the same error message.

  • Hello Athion,

there are a few threads in this forum where Cannot create stream is associated with a local path to the Warehouse. Unfortunately I've never found out when this path is used with an incrementing number appended (the steps are 640, btw) nor what actually happens in the synchronisation step.

In short, I'm out of ideas. One more question (actually three): Do you distribute to the default SophosUpdate share only or also to other (remote) shares? And have you more than one subscription for SAVXP? Last - did SUM (re-)create the files in the warehouse? Support should know or be able to find out what happens and what could go wrong at this step (as the usual cleanup doesn't seem to help) and I suggest you contact them. Feel free to follow up on this thread and please post the solution (which I hope can be found).
