Sophos stops working when my mac starts up

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I'm using a mac (10.6.8) and have the latest sophos 8.04C - every time I close down my mac and restart it the next morning Sophos stops working and wont allow me to change anything at all via preferences. If I just put my mac to sleep there's no problem at all when it wakes up and sophos continues to work.

If I download the sophos software again everything works smoothly until the next time I shut down my mac ..........!

Maybe I'm missing something - perhaps I've got one of the settings wrong, perhaps my OS wont work with the latest sophos - I just don't know!

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance

  • Sorry; I responded to this in one of the other threads discussing the same issue, but seem to have failed to do so here.  I've flagged this issue to the product team, but haven't had a response yet.  My analysis of the issue still stands; the cause is still unknown to me, as I haven't been able to replicate the issue myself.

  • We've just started getting these exact errors on some of our clients as well.

    system.log:Jun 25 08:25:22 lionpaw SophosManagementAgent[59]: *** Assertion failure in +[IPCConnection(SocketCreation) clientSocketForPath:](), /Builds/build_savmac/SAVMac/common/server/IPCConnection.m:560

We have Mac clients connecting to a windows server to get their updates via smb://

we've just deployed sophos to a couple hundred macs, so it'd be sad if all these clients start doing this :(  didn't pick it up in our testing phase.

watching this thread with interest - hopefully sophos will issue a patch soonish.

  • If you're having products with our Enterprise product, please contact customer support, who will assign a person to help you fix the problem.  This forum is for the free Home Edition (personal use only) of the product.

That said, the assertion failure looks identical to the one reported for the Home product that I reported to the product team. If you run a system report on the clients with this problem, is there anything that stands out as the same on them that differs from the other clients?

    :1007889
  • Ah sorry about that, this is defintely the enterprise end of things and using the SEC,  but my googling led me here first :)

I'll get in touch with our vendors and see what they can do for us.

When you say runa  system report - is that a sophos util, or did you mean comparing logs in /var/log or exporting info from the system_profiler and comparing things?  (sorry - I don't deal with Macs too often, so learning new tools all the time)

Thus far, only one user of many has reported this, but its only been a day or two and I was concerned that the problem might become widespread

  • I meant running system_profiler.  You could also use the Mac version of the sdutil -- support should be able to provide you with it.

The problem definitely exists on the Home Edition side, and appears to be significant but not widespread.  Users ahve reported it on 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7, so it's not OS version specific.

    :1007897
  • Ah - cool - can do.  We're runing a mix of OS from 10.5.x through to 10.7.x - but its a 10.6.x machine with the issue.

i've flicked an email to my Sophos vendor and we'll see what they come back wtih.

    Thanks for the help

  • Hi Agile.

    This problem is still ongoing.

Are your product team still scratching their heads on this one or have they given up?

Can you give me an update please.

    Thanks

    Mike

  • I haven't heard back from the product team yet; has your supplier gotten back to you?

  • Agile

i'm the originator of this thread - I think you muast be confusing me with someone else.

Nonetheless, can you please chase up the product team just in case they've forgotten about it!

    Mike
