Now we are runing into a major issue:

Upon booting up, we get this error:

or switch off the system now.

When we hit the key: I got no reponse from the laptop.

Please help.

  • We believe the problems we were seeing earlier were due to malware, which would also explain why we would only see this on a small number of computers, all of which had been in service for a while.  We found that if we initiate a malware cleanup prior to rebooting the computer, we could usually avoid this error.  Once the error comes up, though, the only solution we found is to rebuild/refresh the computer.

  • We have new HP 6200Pro Desktops as well as some newer model HP EliteBook laptops where we get this NO INIT after doing a SafeGuard 5.50.1 install and the way we get around this is by doing a SHIFT+F6 then do a SHIFT+F5. If this works for your situation you may want to include those paramaters during the install to avoid having to do this after every install.

  • Hi Rex,

thank you very much for sharing that information with US. Would it be possible for you to submit this centrally so that we can take these settings into the next POA CFG file?

The process of submitting such hardware examples is described here:

Thanks and have a nice weekend!

  • We are experiencing the "no init" issue as well.  We just received a new batch of Dell E6430 laptops, with a different NVIDIA driver requirement.

We are able to image the laptops without the Sophos installation, successfully, but once we install sophos (even  manually - installing prefix, install client x64, install configuration), once the laptop reboots, we only get to the "no init" screen.

This occurs on every E6430 laptop we image.  Again, if we do not install Sophos, we have absolutely no image problems.

We have attempted every hotkey Shift Fx button to no resolve.

Any other suggestions to this resolve?

  • I can say that HealthPlus' issue is isolated. We have brand new E6430 Laptops deployed with sophos... no problems. could it be the installer? I am not sure why it panics after the POA... but its definatly hardware or driver related, I hope someone can shed light on the E6430 issue as I fear we may come across this issue as we deploy more E6430's

  • Hello Guys,

today I experienced the same Problem on a DELL Latitude E7440 with Win7 Professional (64Bit). After installing the SGxClientPreinstall.msi, then SGNClient_x64.msi and finally the MyConfiguration.msi and reboot I ended at the No init screen. I installed the SGE 6.0.1 Version.

Are there already any Solutions for this Problem? Help will be appreciated. Thanks.

New Info [04.03.2014]: I found a knowledge base article (ID: 120126) which describes the solution for this problem.

You have to Press SHIFT+F6 while "Please wait" is displayed.

Unfortnately this didn't worked for me so I contacted the Sophos Support. They told me to press LEFT and RIGHT SHIFT Button or sometimes FN+LEFT/RIGHT+SHIFT Buttons alternately whithin the Boot process. Then a message will appear that you have to press a HotKey Button. I had to try it several times, but then I succeeded. I think it was pressing FN+SHIFT+F6 several times within the boot process.

After passing once the "No init" screen the setting will be saved and the next boot phase should be fine.

Hope this will help also you :o)

  • thanks the Fn+ Shift+ F6 did the trick and allowed me to boot into Windows. I was thinking I might need to reformat the whole machine again!!!!!

  • Hello,

To avoid hardware related issues at Power On Authentication (POA) level, the installer of Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise, version 5.40.0 and above, checks several hardware conditions, including, for example, the BIOS version, hardware model, etc. By comparing these against the existing DB file, the installer can determine if your system requires non-default POA settings applied.

The Client msi package includes a DB file containing details of computers for which information was available at the time of the release. This file can be customized to reflect the hardware of a particular environment.

For hardware that was released/tested after the release of SafeGuard 6.00.1, we have a KBA with an up to date DB file available. Please see Knowledge Base Article below for further information:

SafeGuard Enterprise Client: Latest POA settings database file

  • For what it's worth:

The proper keystroke combination for a Lenovo 440S was FN **bleep** + F6.

It forced it inti "Ata Mode"?

I believe in my case at least, the issue is related to the static drive on this Ultrabook.
