ASG220 CPU usage by reporting

Uptime shows as 1d 16h - if you just applied several Up2Dates, you might be experiencing a data base re-organization that should complete in a day or so.

Thanks for the reply, this has been an on-going issue for several weeks now through two firmware updates. It will drop back to normal utilization from time to time for an hour or so, then jump back to 100%. You can see from the process report the amount of CPU time it has used over the one day of uptime.

Hi All,

I have an issue with my ASG220 running 100% CPU which doesn't seem to be affacting WWW and Email throughput but is making the WebAdmin and user portals a nightmare. 

The device is running current firmware, i've rebooted and also purged the mail log as postgress reporting service seems to be chewing the lion's share of the processor. Attached is a capture of the dashboard and also the offending service, I would apprecaite any assistance anyone can offer,

Just as an aside.  How many users are on that box?  Just from first glance it seems you may nearly be at the performance limits of the machine..12% swap means you are definitely running out of ram and that will cause all kinds of performance issues.

We are currently supporting approx 150 internal users on a 10mbit/10mbit Internet connection. I ran the numbers of beforehand and the 220 appeared to surpass my requirements interms of recommended users and also throughput.

Thanks All, i've submitted a support ticket. I'll come back with the results if I get a solution in case anyone else stumbles over this issue, thanks for the assistance.

with those stats i would have gone up to a 3x series..or built one myself.  I may be wrong but I'm thinking you are actually at the performance omits of that box...they may be able to tweak some software settings..but if they go down that road it means it's only a matter of time before you'll be getting a higher powered one.

I prefer to stick to the manufacture’s recommendations, this becomes beneficial when something goes wrong and you need support. The ASG220 states 75 - 300 users, 400,000 email per hour and 300,000 concurrent connections - this is well beyond what I need for this particular site. I have several other deployments of ASG110’s and software deployments on server hardware running without problems, this seems to be an issue specifically related to a reporting service error or config issue rather than performance.

However, I'll post if I get a solution via Astaro Support.

I concur with William; a 320 is a better match at that load.  When you add Mail and / or Web filtering that max user count goes down...

Manufacture's stats are under controlled conditions and are guidelines and aren't really to be relied upon.  Case in point..i have only 5 machines at my location with a total of three users.  I can lockup a 120 without thinking and can bring a 2xx to it's knees with a minimal of effort.  That's why i run with the celey i have now.   I'm unusual i know. Looking at the hardware design on the 2xx and with my years of hardware assembly experience i stand by my assertion you are most likely at the performance limits of the machine barring a hardware failure..  I still say you are going to be outgrowing that box soon.  3xx or higher would be a good move for you.
