Astaro Restarting [8.103]

We have a ASG 220 (firmware 8.103) that was installed 1 week ago. It has now happened twice where we loose all access to the internet, I cannot connect to the device using webadmin or SSH. The first time it happened we had to restart the device ourselves by unplugging the power (we tried just a power down with the switch but it didnt' work), the second time it happened it just restarted itself. We have our IT consultant looking at it now but just wanted to post something here incase someone else has had this issue before.

The unit is connected to a APC UPS so we don't think it is a power issue and the device is in an air conditioned server room so we don't think Heat is an issue either, the load on the device hasn't gone past 2 or 3 yet so I don't think that is the issue either.

When the device restarted I got an email saying it restarted but the reason was "unknown" and the load was at 1.07.

    Have a look in the system log... when this happens (random freezes, reboots, etc.) I've found it's most often a failed or failing hard drive.. .you can tell.. if you see read errors in the log.  Since you are using this in a commercial situation, you no doubt have a commercial license, which includes support; your IT person should be contacting Astaro to have them take a look.

    Hey Bruce,
    thanks for the info, just so I'm looking in the same place are we talking about the system log in the webgui under Logging - View Log Files - System Messages?
    I've attached a txt file of the system log. You can see the device restarted around 11:45am. I don't see any warnings about a hard drive.

    I guess they don't use SSD?

    No they use standard HDD units.  I think you guys probably should start a case with Astaro and let them check it out; it could be some other hardware issue, or a misconfiguration of some kind, etc.  They should be able to get to the bottom of it.  Oh, and I meant to say--have a look in the Kernel log as well.

    Thanks Bruce,
    Our IT consultant has already opened a case with Astaro and sent them the logs. We are just waiting to hear back!

    Good idea, I will check those today but I think we just have a bad device.
    Now I can't access the webadmin, I get the following error in my browser (I have tried IE, Firefox, Chrome)

    Service Temporarily Unavailable

    The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

    Looks like I'm going to have to manually restart the device AGAIN! I was under the impression that these were rock solid devices? We are considering returning this device since we have had nothing but trouble. (it took 1.5 weeks to sort out a certificate problem!)

    They are, but like any device with electronic and mechanical parts, hardware failures can happen.  

    I suggest that you open up a support ticket.  If you have standard support, you'll need to contact your reseller.  If you have premium support, you can contact Astaro support directly.  If they determine that you need to swap out the box, don't forget to save off a config backup to make the swap to the new box quick and painless.

    Astaro is looking at the logs as we speak, I'm sure they are solid it's just we haven't had a great first few weeks with the device. I did check the fans and they all seem to be working. 
    One other interesting note is that I went to reboot the device using the front panel and it didn't work (just hung at System rebooting). I then power down the device using the switch on the back, power it back on and it was just black boxes all the way across the top of the screen. Had to power it down a second time and turned it back on and it finally booted up and I could access it. I've got a backup so hopefully they can just send a us a new unit. 
    For the backup, does that also backup our Certificates?
