Cannot access webadmin due to license issue

so you want to keep using a product after the license has expired?

do you use anti-virus products after the license has expired?  is it fully functional?  does it get updates?

i fail to see where there is a problem with Astaro requesting you renew your license.  its business.

Actually, Sadirov, you should be able to use the Essential Firewall for no license fee.

I'm going to guess that your Mail Security subscription expired, but that the basic license only expired recently.  If you are on V7.50x, then you should be able to upload the Essential Firewall license which includes Stateful Firewall, NAT, PPTP & L2TP Remote Access, Local Authentication, Local Logging and Essential Reporting.

In the new licensing model, if you don't have a Network Security Subscription, you won't get Intrusion Prevention, IPSec/SSL VPN & Remote Access, VoIP Security, Advanced Routing, Advanced Networking, User Portal, Remote Authentication, Remote Logging, Advanced Reporting and HA.  The first year will be extended free when your present license is upgraded to the new model, so this will affect you only a year from now.

If you're using a version older than 7.500, you won't be able to use the new license.  You will need to ask Astaro Support to extend your old license for a week so you can Up2Date (I would recommend) to V7.507.  Then you'll be able to apply a new license key.

Pirateghost, I worked on many firewalls, some of them you know and others you don't. In case of license expiration, it will disable content filtering, mail filtering, IDS... whatever you want. But why on earth it will disable the "Web Admin" access. Mention a firewall that is doing that!

Bob, thanks for your help. You are totally right. The mail security subscription is expired and i am ok with that. And now i should use the basic function of a firewall. But i can assure you that i can't access the web, i can't access the configuration. Anyway, i am going to contact support for this issue.

I have exactly same problem.
The firewall is still running as earlier - I just can not access the "Web Admin".

I need to get access to the "Web Admin" so that I can read our configuration and setup a new firewall with version 8. (The old firewall is version 6).

Buying a license just to be able to read settings doesn't seem to be a very good solution.

Maybe your reseller has a good-enough relationship with Astaro Support to get you a temporary extension of your old license, but I think your best bet is to set up a unit with the date-time set back. This would allow the old license to come up so you can Up2Date to 7.000, then upgrade to 7.507 and apply the new license.  Under the new licensing scheme, the Essential Firewall license allows access to WebAdmin, and your first year of Network Security is free.

Just to clarify this behaviour, if you are running a paid, commercial version of ASG, when licenses expire of any kind you can still access the WebAdmin, review your current licensing status, and  work with the system. Trial keys (of any length) which expire will lock you out of the WebAdmin, as for various reasons we do not want continued use of systems based on this license type. 

The webadmin should never be "locked out" from normal key expirys on paid sites. You can experience very odd behaviour however if the date on the box is extremely far in the past or future sometimes, as if the box thinks it is 1902 or 2322 for a year for example, interesting things might happen.

Angelo, prior to the new licensing scheme used in V8 (and usable in later versions of V7), once the base license expires, a new license must be uploaded to gain access to WebAdmin.

It works. Not that I am surprised - just relieved.

I do not even need to upgrade as I just needed to get access to Webmin so that I can mirror the setup to a new firewall.

Hopefully we will not need to make any changes in the firewall before the new unit is up and running. I had hoped for a quick way to gain access to the Webmin for a week or two until the new unit is ready, but this is good enough.

My trial license expired too and now I have no access to my firewall/router...

Is this normal?

The hardware is completely useless without a license?

Now I'm gonna buy one year of "network security" but after that it will be useless again?
