Or even better. Could you please temporary disable all other SSIDs except the printer SSID? Let the printer associate again and afterwards attach the wireless.log here? Thanks.

okay, the printer is labeled Epson workforce 325, but is actually a TX320 Workforce 320.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

2/.with security enabled WPA2-PSK (AES) which the printer config shows as WPA-PSK (AES) the securit/password check fails. The printer also reports the signal as being low. The printer and the AP30 are about 2 metres apart, line of sight. I can touch both from my desk.

Time of testing 7th March 2011 around  2011 by the ASG clock. The SSID is Fluffstuff.

Ok, the log clearly shows that somehow the AP is not able to send frames to the printer (or at least they are not acked by the printer). Now, since it worked before there must be something different in the new fw.

The 802.11 authentication and association works just fine (these frames are always sent at 1Mbps OFDM). In the unencrypted case DHCP will make use of MCS rates and in the encrypted case the EAPOL key handshake will be performed with MCS rates.

So, there seems to be a misconfiguration between printer and AP in regard to the 11n rate setup.

Is it possible to force the printer to not use 11n but only 11g somehow (just for testing purposes)?

I need some more time to think about this issue but I'll get back to you as soon as I've got something to try.

Hi Helmut,
read 3 different manuals on the 325.
The best I can determine is the b/g/n setting only shows up if the printer fails to identify the network connection type. As this isn't the issue (printer's point of view only), the menu item never appears.

But you can add a WEP secured (yeah, let's call it WEP unsecured) SSID as 802.11n is not allowed with WEP and thus will force the AP and the Printer to use 11g rates.

Might be worth a try.

Of course not as a solution, just to gather some more info about this problem.

okay created a SSID with WEP 128 (104).

The logfile will show a number of attempts, please ignore them, I forgot to associate the SSID.
Eventually, many key presses later the printer connected at 54mb/s with all the correct details

Log entries to look for start around 2118 10 March ASG time and finish around 2140.

Now to put it back together again.

Correct. I also ran a test print just to be sure. 

26 hex characters is a pain on a telephone number pad, especially when you get it wrong.

JFI I've just committed a fix that fixes a problem with some RX STBC capable wifi clients. The epson printer seems to be RX STBC capable. So your problem might be fixed in 8.161 but I'm not sure at all [;)]

Please report back if things improve with 8.161. Otherwise we need to do some more intense debugging ...

there is good news. The Epson connected first time after some typing errors. Prints well as can be expected.
When printing the wireless security was showing 52mb when printing finished the rate went to 65mb/s which is the highest I saw it previously. The distance between the 2 is line of site, same height, 2 metres apart.

Yeah, the rate control algorithm does not necessarily choose the fastest rate, it also takes the transmission probability into account and in some cases a "slower" rate can result in better latency/throughput then a "faster" rate (depending on external circumstances like temporary interference, wall reflections etc.). So, no need to worry about this.
