Kernel panic when booting (Qotom Mini PC Q500P)

Hello all,

I received my hardware, which I discussed here, for my XG yesterday.

First I had the problem that the installation did not go through, but after I set everything to legacy in the BIOS, the installation was without problems.

However, I now get a kernel panic when booting:

Unfortunately, booting with acpi=off does not help either. Here is a photo of booting with acpi=off

Does anyone have an idea how I can solve the problem?

Regards

Marc

  • Unfortunately this way is not possible, because the 18.0 does not start :-(

  • What HDD do you use? SATA? Im not sure if M.2 or NVME are supported.
Did you update bios? My had one from 2020 and is normaly install 18.0 and update to 18.5  Im update it to last one from 2021 and  18.5 run. I need to disable UEFI and use legacy options, and Im disable speedstep and other saving options.

Only issue I had right now is boot messages but it then boot and run. And last 3 days I have issue that WAN connection do not work anymore. It get IP, GW, DNS from DHCP but gw stay red and do not change to green. Also ping and traceroute do not work on wan interface... Im try change WAN interface from Port8 to Port7 and to Port4 but none help...

P.S: This underlined issue is resolved. XG has been tested in internal LAN and WAN IP on that XG has receive same network as configured on XG VLAN... Im found this when im check routes on advanced console and see two routes for same network(one on WAN and onother on VLAN.

From where did you get the current bios? I only found the existing bios at Qotom.

  • Im get it from official download site:

    https://www.qotom.shop/download/BIOS/

Be carefull if model have more than one revision to check(On Frinds is under RAM slot) which revision do you have...

  • I have my 18.5 installation running on a system on 128GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD
    No problems at all.

  • I've just connected an old SSD. Sophos starts with it after the installation.

Now the question is, what can I possibly do to run the M.2 with Sophos?

  • Fiddle with you're BIOS settings...

  • Looks like M2 NVME is not problem and can normaly be installed... I didn't test it on Qotom pc. Please look into hard drive configuration under BIOS and try to fix type to "solid state drive" try to before that do reset BIOS to defaults and set storage to "Legacy" and also other types to "Legacy" instead of "UEFI" or "UEFI or Legacy" ...

  • After deactivating the OEM FORM, there are really a lot of setting options there:

What could I try here, that is unfortunately not exactly my area of expertise?

  • Hi,

you should ask Qotom, what Linux is supported and try to install this distribution first.

If this fails, then i would ask Qotom for support....
