17.0 to 17.1 update factory default prompt

Trying to update XG115w_XN03_SFOS 17.0.8 MR-8 through web interface using HW-17.1.0_GA.SF300-152.gpg and get the message "The firmware will boot the device with factory default configuration" each time the firmware is uploaded so I have to cancel.  It's a remote xg in production deployment and factory defaulting would be unwanted.  Is this a known problem?

  • Hi,

    Good day!

As per Sophos advise. Please do not upgrade yet from 17.0.8 MR-8 to 17.1 for specific units (XG115 and below) as the firmware has a high memory usage issues. I suggest to revert back to mr-8 and wait for the new firmware version. This is all according to Sophos.

  • Hi,

This should not happen - In Case - how did you upload the firmware? Can you explain your steps?

    Is it a HA?

  • It's not HA and never has been. Firmware was downloaded from the mysophos portal after entering serial# and upload attempted through gui:

backup & firmware >> firmware >> clicked on the up arrow icon for upload next to the old inactive SFOS 17.0.6 MR-6 firmware entry >> select either "upload firmware" or "upload & boot firmware" >> file upload completes and then for either selection displays

"The firmware will boot the device with factory default configuration"

  • Hi Pal,

    Good day!

Wireless models are incapable of HA set-up, anyways as per Sophos Philippines advise, XG115 model or below are not recommended to upgrade to 17.1 and its confirmed that we have to wait.

  • Hi,

This can indicate, you have to reboot the appliance first. Could you please reboot the appliance once, then press upload & boot and check, if the message appears again?

Please get a backup first - just in case :)

  • Thanks for the feedback both of you.  I did note comments in the release note post mentioned models having problems with 17.1.  release notes now state the firmware isn't available for xg85 but no models other than that.  Are the notes still accurate or is there info still in progress about xg115 that's missing from this post?  https://community.sophos.com/products/xg-firewall/b/xg-blog/posts/sfos-17-1-0-ga-released

  • Hi Pal,

    Good day!

I also ask Sophos Philippines same question because one of our client with XG105 have the same issue. I've got the information last Monday on a Sophos Partner event, so its legit and advisable that from XG115 below its not recommended to upgrade to 17.1.
