Endpoint computers wont update

Hi Sophos experts

I am having some problems with Sophos version 10, it seems to download updates to the serve but wont distribute them to the endpoint computers (about 20 of them)  The common error message is Error could not find a source for installation packages code 00000071.  Oh I am aware that the license has ran out and will need renewing for the software.

  • Hello Supermean,

I am aware that the license has ran out

I'd assume that the console (in the Update managers view) will alert you in this case. Naturally :smileywink: I can't tell you how AutoUpdate behaves when your license has run out - that you receive 0000006f for your PureMessage server suggests that the expired license is the cause. The ALUpdate logs in the clients might be more specific (apart from looking for an error check the locations where CustomerID is mentioned).

Oh, and if you've already renewed your license the errors might have disappeared.

  • Hello and thanks for replying.  Yes the license issue will need to be looked at.  However I am abit perplexed as when I look at the update manager it seems to be downloading the binary updates ok, but it says it cant write them to the specified destination: See below:

Is there a specific account which the application uses which I need to check to make sure it has access to the specified locations.?

  • Hello Supermean,

I must admit I was somewhat surprised by the picture - namely the Maintained in. This is AFAIK supposed to show the share only (without a specific path appended). Haven't thought it through ... well, could you please post the output of View -> Bootstrap Locations? Guess there's some problem with your configuration. If you enter a path like the two with the error you get a warning telling you the share might not exist. Nevertheless - I've just tested it - it works (although I wouldn't recommend it).

Obviously it can write to the default share and unless you've applied a specific security below \SophosUpdate the SUM should be able to write to these locations (again: the configuration is not as it should be). Anyway, details of the error should be in one of the SUMTrace logs.

  • Hi Christian

There is another issue on the server to do with low ram which is preventing me from continuing to use the sophos enterprise console.  Once we have rectified these issues I will continue with providing the info you have requested.

    Kind Regards

    Supermean
