SUM stuck to an older version and not updating

Hello, I have a SUM (at a remote subsidiary connected by MPLS) which is stuck at an older version (1.5.2.1060) while the remaining ones (at different remote subsidiaries with the same connection type) are working and at a newer version (1.5.4.11). All of them have been installed from the same central management server share.

If I right click on the non-working SUM and choose "display update manager details" I cannot see any evident error but only that the last update try happened on August, 11th 2014 with no errors, and nothing else.

Any idea what I should check ?

Thanks !

  • Hello DiegoLunez,

please check this SUM's Configuration, tab Advanced, whether 1 Recommended is selected for the self-update. But even if this is not set it shouldn't result in an outdated Last update.

I vaguely remember that I had to reboot my servers around mid-August as a SUM seemed to be stuck in a similar way. You should also check the Last message time for the SUM in the Endpoints view. But I can't remember whether it was the server-to-server or the server-internal communication which hung.

BTW: According to the kb articles SUM 1.5.2 should have upgraded RMS to 4.0 - I still see 3.4.1.

  • Hello Sandy,

first on the server side, then on the client side

I was aware of this :smileyhappy:. Does client side mean the server's client side? Indeed I can see that the RMS directory has been moved and in there most files with version 4.0.2. Programs and features still displays 3.4.1 and AutoUpdate is still downloading RMSNT, the date of the last Sophos RMS Install log corresponds to the P&F date and 3.4.1 is the version in the log.

All this is more than a little bit cryptic. Fortunately there are no RMS troubles I'd have to shoot but I wouldn't know where to start :smileywink:

  • Thanks Christian, I performed the check you suggested but did not find any related anomaly. In the end it turned out to be a more simple problem of the SUM service not running on the SUM server, starting it solved the problem.
