CIDSYNC_E_RCIDERROR (Remote CID is corrupted.)

Hello,

I tried to install the client on a new machine (Win7 SP1, 32 Bit), but it fails to download from the server.

This is what I get when I manually want to update:

Any idea what I should try?

The server provides updates for about 100 machines, and this works very well except for the new machine.

  • Hello strubbel,

dunno when it thinks that the CID is corrupt (as opposed to an error in transmission, i.e. the file's checksum is invalid). Does the file vdl40.vdb exist in the CID? If yes, please clear the cache (C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\cache\savxp ) on the client to force a complete download of SAVXP and check if it fails on the same file.

    Christian

  • Hello Christian,

    thank you for the reply.

The file vdl40.vdb does exist in the CID. (BTW, what does CID mean?)

C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\cache\savxp was already empty, so I deleted

    C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\cache\tempsavxp

But unfortunately this did not help, it downloads until vdl40.vdb and stops afterwards (after this file is found and downloaded) with the same messages.

By the way, on this Win7 machine is a virtual XP mode machine as well, and there is exactly the same error.

All other machines in the network update flawlessly.

  • Hello strubbel,

    what does CID mean?

last time I checked it stood for Central Installation Directory.

So both machines download "up to" vdl40.vdb it should have 975,718 bytes BTW)? How many files did they download (perhaps you could post a few lines before the error)? Just to have a reference I'd delete the cache on another client and see what it does. If it updates w/o problems then the problem is likely local.

    Christian

    :17957
  • I copied the file vdl40.vdb from another machine, but this did not help either. The update always tries to download it again, as if it would not be there already. The file size is as yours.

I tried to understand the log:

    Trace(2011-Oct-18 12:30:54): CIDSync(CidSyncMessage): Downloading file dldr-gb.ide

    • Code = -2147217663 is not documented by Sophos, but its hex value is in http://de.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/12377.html (in German, sorry):
80040f01Unerwarteter Systemfehler (z. B. konnte nicht aus Registrierung lesen)Führen Sie das Update erneut durch. Möglicherweise müssen Sie deinstallieren und neu installieren.
    • Next line: MapFile = C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\cache\savxp.map
This file does not exist at all?!? There are 2 other map files (sau.map and rms.map), but not this one

I already tried to reinstall several times, but always the result is the same.

    :17959
  • in German, sorry

Die englischen Versionen erhält man auf www.sophos.com statt de.sophos.com - URL sonst ident :smileyhappy:

The code doesn't make sense - especially when the accompanying message speaks of RCIDERROR (and as you saw un-/reinstall did not help at all). At the moment I have no better idea than trying a full download on another client by clearing its cache and if this works then you should contact Support.

    Christian

    :17961
  • Just to have a reference I'd delete the cache on another client and see what it does.

OK I did this - now knowing I am sitting on a bomb here :smileysurprised:

Same thing happens on another machine, too, it reports exactly the same messages and does not create the savxp.map at all.

    :17963
  • Good (well, not so good but at least you have time to react before it goes boom).

As it soon will cause troubles anyway you could assume that the CID is actually corrupt. SUM (although it failed to detect it) can usually correct this. There's a shorter and a longer path. The short path is just emptying the CID on the server and then forcing it to get rebuilt by requesting Update now for the update manager. The longer path involves emptying/deleting not only the CID but also the Working and Warehouse folders and the SUM_Status.xml and specialactions.xml files in the programs (\Sophos\E..C..\SUM or \Sophos\Update Manager folder). I'd try rebuilding the CID first (if you put in any configuration e.g. mrinit.conf or a policy xml file do not forget to reapply it). Usually that does it.

    Christian

    :17965
  • Thank you, Christian :smileyhappy:

The short path did help :smileyvery-happy:
