How to disable RMS updates?

I have removed RMS from my computer.

The autoupdate still wants to update it each time.

How do I configure autoupdater not to attempt updating RMS ?

  • Hello AbsolutelyFreeW,

I have removed RMS from my computer

may I ask why (not that it's forbidden)? Why has it been installed with the management component in the first place? Although I think RMS can be removed afterwards it's better to install either w/o the -mng yes flag or the SA version.

  • I wanted to get rid of the update error, but even after uninstslling it, it still wants to update it. this must be a bug.

  • Hello AbsolutelyFreeW,

get rid of the update error

this doesn't answer the question why you installed the managed version when the endpoint apparently shouldn't be managed or can't update from a managed location.

    this must be a bug

Maybe - but perhaps not in the way you assume. After uninstall the endpoint is in limbo. AutoUpdate will still attempt to download RMS and, under certain circumstances, update(install) RMS - the installation fails though (it seems that it attempts to run ClientMRInit from the RMS subdirectory which it can't find). You can't turn an SA endpoint into a managed one by simply "adding" the RMS component thus it'd be logical that you also can't do it the other way round. Guess the idea is that you should be able to uninstall the RMS component if it doesn't work correctly without taking management away from the endpoint. If this is indeed the idea then it doesn't work as intended.

Anyway, I think it's better to (uninstall and then) install the SA version instead of trying to hack down what's left of RMS.

  • Thank you for your reply and help, I see, so the correct way is uninstall the network version and install the standalone version.

However, I did mean I'd like to configure my current installation to just not attempt updating RMS. Seems to me it shouldn't be more than a switch somewhere in all the config files eventhough I have not found one. Everything else works well. Thank you.
