Sophos endpoint, no bootstrap locations

After following all articles to repair SSh updater problem the enterprise console does not display any bootstrap locations, update manager appears to be working however this server still shows 35 items in quarantine.

I've validated my license which coincedently was changed at the same time of the outbreak.

  • Hello Zoe, could you confirm if the following location is available and has a SAVXP folder in it:

    on 2k8 or later:

    C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\CIDs\s000

prior to 2k8 (may be different dependant on language)

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\CIDs\S000

If this exists the SUM is in fact working correctly, however as a fall-back you may want to try deleting all of the contents of the following folders a couple of levels up from these folders and then forcing an "Update Now" from the SUM manager view:

    \Update Manager\Working

    \Update Manager\Update Manager\Warehouse

If SUM has an issue with cached data this should flush the operation.

  • I've found the folders,

in update manager/warehouse, there are 1965 items

and I also noticed that I have in CIDs folder/ two folders called S000 and S002

are you suggesting I delete all items?

  • If you are concerned about deleting that data, back it up to another location, but these folders need to be empty as this is in effect where the SUM data cache exists.

Leave the s000 and s001 folders as they are so endpoints are still able to access thier CIDS, but delete the warehouse and working folders, these should be re[populated wiht the latest data and then as it will no longer be doing diff agains tthe cached data. At this point it should update your Bootstrap locations correctly. Sorry about the delay getting back to this as it has been a rather busy day.

  • Thanks, after many days it appears my system/systems are good

took a while to get back to you sorry, hope you guys get some much needed rest soon

FYI, enterprise console does not show any bootstrap locations but based on what you told me, I think it fine

  • Hello Zoe,

you seem to have two subscriptions so at the minimum the output should list Recommended with SESC distributed to the server's \SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\SAVSCFXP and similar information for the additional subscription. If the Update managers view doesn't show an error and a definite date for last update (not Never) bootstrap locations should not be empty.

The bootstrap information is not vital AFAIK - its absence nevertheless suggests some error. You should double-check that everything else is working by comparing the number of IDEs on an up to date client to the one on the IDEs download page.
