Error message stating insufficient privileges for uninstall, logged in as local administrator?

Sorry for the rather snippy reply - 'twas 8p.m. and meant as tongue-in-cheek response to the rather sparse information. I deduce you are talking about Windows but without OS and SAV version it is hard to give any meaningful answer. Furthermore you did not say how you installed Sophos, whether the computer is managed (although from the also scant Network Communications Report post I glean it is) and if it's in an AD environment.
But finally - my remark was nevertheless serious as with Tamper Protection enabled you'll get (after the preparing) the mesage: You have insufficient privileges to uninstall this product.

Hi .
My first post , i have been trying to uninstall sophos but have been getting the same message . i didnt install it and dont know where sphos came from . just went on my laptop today and there it is , getting constant pop up warnings with everything i do.
Im running windows 8 and im not to hot at the technical stuff so im lost as how to remove it...The tamper protection part is grey and when i get to the pass word bit i dont know it as i didnt installl it... im the only one with access to this laptop to which has confused me a bit , any help would be great

Hello Steveo,
i didnt install it and dont know where sphos came from
well, while not impossible it is highly improbable that it emerged from random errors on your disk. Given the nature of the software I also don't assume it has been planted by a hacker or loaded by some trojan or drive-by-attack.
im the only one with access to this laptop
Either this isn't true or you gave permission for it to get installed. Can you remember when you first "detected" it and what you have done before? Companies, schools, etc. might require compliance with certain (security) policies, e.g. recent patches applied, up-to-date and active AV software, before letting a device access their network - potentially offering (semi-)automatic remediation (like installing updates, or an AV software).
Whoever installed Sophos (or provided the installer) probably has a reason, apparently "they" also enabled TP. Guess if you manage to uninstall you'll either lose access to some site's network or discover it is installed again. Thus you'd have to find out how Sophos got onto your laptop and who did it.

i noticed it the day i messaged , its a new laptop as i still use my old one for all my artwork and work related stuff. im baffled as to where it came from , im deffo the only one with access which is weird too . the only sites i have visited on it are facebook , amazon and a tattoo equipment supply page
Is there a way i can turn it off even so it dosent ping and pop up a warning everytime i do something?
thanks for the help btw
steveo
Hello steveo,
TP prevents the not to hot at the technical stuff ones from uninstalling as well as from modifying the settings (i.e. turning "it" off). You don't have Sophos on your old laptop and you've used your new one (brand new?, where from?) for some time before you had your first encounter with this ping and pop up?
