upgrade console 4.5 to 4.7

do I understand correctly that it tells you to manually uninstall the update manager? You can probably do so by running MsiExec.exe /X{2C7A82DB-69BC-4198-AC26-BB862F1BE4D0} . Make sure you have a recent backup of your SOPHOS45 database (you did backup before installing, didn't you?).  After uninstalling SUM retry the SEC47 install and if it fails again try to determine the cause (you might get a pop up. If not search for recently created files). See also here for a similar problem.

What exactly did you do? Uninstalled SUM using msiexec.exe and then re-attempted the 4.7 install? Did this succeed (BTW - is you database local?) or did it again fail at some point. Just wondering as you said but i can't open the console - the installer should log you off at the end and after logging on again finish the install and open the console. Is this where it failed?

I'm getting something similar to this upgrading from 4.5 to 4.7.  I've got Sophos installed on a 2003 R2 server running Sql express 2005 locally.  Upgrading the NAC from 35 to 37 runs through with no issues.  Then when running sec_47_sfx.exe the install with fail half way through and roll back to pre install (although by doing so seems to break the enterprise console and I end up having to restore the snapshot of the server i took beforehand).  The error it comes up with is;

Error 1722.  There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor.  Action RunclientMRInit, location c:\program file\>>>\Remote Management System\

Looking in the Sophos Enterprise Console.msi.log it ends;

Further up the log it mentions;

Property(C): SQLExpressFilesNotFoundError = The external SQL Server 2008 Express installation files could not be found.Property(C): SQLExpressOSRequirementsError = This computer does not meet the necessary operating system requirements.

Not sure if this is relevant or is just saying i'm not using SQL 2008?

I've run the sec_47_sfx.exe on a virtual machine which installs fine which says to me the file isn't corrupt, anyone have something similar happen?

Is there a clientmrinit log file in %temp% you could paste here?

For whatever reason RMS is configured as endpoint. Try uninstalling RMS and then upgrading (but I can't guarantee it will work).

For anyone else with this issue I managed to complete the install after deleting these two keys from the server's registry;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos\Messaging System

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos\Remote Management System\CertificationIdentityKeys

After deleting those 2 keys though, Iwould expect the client to fail to talk to the server? Are the clients ok?
