Uninstalling old version Failure of installation

Hello

By trying to install the new Sophos home edition version on my MacBook OS 10.5.8. I get the message that an older version of Sophos is installed.
I thought I had uninstalled it, and can not find it anymore.

Have any one a suggestion of what I can do?

  • Hi -- I tried that link and still can't uninstall my old version.  It was installed at a university as a part of their security package, so maybe it's not the home version I'm trying to uninstall.  I dragged the program to the trash, but that didn't work.  I'm trying to install the new at-home, mac free version, but have the same problem as the inital poster -- the program tells me that this other version is installed and I can't install the new one until I can figure out how to get rid of the old one..

    Ideas?

    Thanks,

    John

  • As stated in the other message thread, if you have SAV 4 installed, you might need to upgrade to the trial version of SAV 7 (links provided in thread) before running the uninstall tool.  Dragging the application to the trash is not enough, as the installer installs a number of pieces of software, not all of them in the Applications folder.

  • Thanks -- will that update make it so I don't need to do anything more for this March 2011 date, or should I use that update to set up the uninstall option so that I can take that program off and add sophos for Mac home user free version in lieu of the one I have now?

    Warmly,

    John

  • The second; that update is for the Enterprise version.  If you want to switch to the Home version, you still need to uninstall.

  • Thank you this solved the problem!

    1. Finder
    2. Go menu
    3. Go to Folder…
    4. /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus
    5. Remove Sophos Anti-Virus

  • Since I've removed by hand everything with a Sophos in the file name, including stuff in the Library, there is nothing to go to, but as I recall, there was never any Remove folder/file there anyway.

Does that mean that installing a trial version of a the commercial version is the only solution? Or do I just have to give up and buy from another company.

I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.8 (Leopard)

    Suggestions appreciated.

  • The uninstaller is in the /Applications/ folder for the free version.  If you are uninstalling, you will need to run one uninstaller or the other, or you will not fully uninstall the software (unless you're an OS X guru and can go in and hand-modify all the configuration files indicated in the install log).  Not only will you still have processes like Intercheck running in the background, but if you then attempt to re-install SAV, you will possibly have issues.

  • Problem was solved by running the uninstaller in the trial commercial version for stand-alone Macs. After that, installing the free home version was possible, and it does have an uninstall package as well.

  • I have the same problem...

I have as well a Sophos antivirus old version 4.9.42 (Engine version 3.15.0) from my university and do not have any uninstall option. How can I install the new home version when i can not uninstall the old one??
