Uninstalling old version Failure of installation

Hello

By trying to install the new Sophos home edition version on my MacBook OS 10.5.8. I get the message that an older version of Sophos is installed.
I thought I had uninstalled it, and can not find it anymore.

Have any one a suggestion of what I can do?

  • Hi Quiro,

Have you checked in /Library/Application Support/Sophos Anti-Virus/   for   Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg?

  • This is answered in another thread; I'll post it here too to make it easier for others to find:

    1. Upgrade your old version using the trial installer for version 7
    2. Uninstall SAV 7 Enterprise Trial using the instrucitons in this thread for Enterprise uninstallation
    3. Install SAV 7 Home Edition.

  • Hi,

Like others, Sophos for Mac on my system (OSX 10.6.6) has not been able to update for the last few days.  To deal with that, I attempted to uninstall the sophos version on my computer (7.2.4), and reinstall the latest downloaded version.

Using the uninstaller in the applications folder, I got a "failed to uninstall" error with a code 1.  (It's not on my system anymore, so I can't repeat the exact error message for certain, but I do remember the code 1.)

I then reinstalled a fresh downloaded version of sophos for mac.  That also gave a message about failing to install.  During the installation process, there was a considerable wait time during the writing package files process.

Though I had the install error, the sophos icons were in my applications folder, so I again tried to run the uninstall program  (after repairing permissions and restarting my mac.)  Again, I got the message about sophos failing to uninstall with error code 1.

In response to the suggestion to install the Enterprise Trial version in order to run that uninstall program, that will not work for me.  The Enterprise version requires Windows, and since I am on a mac without access to a windows server, I am not in a position to install that software.

How can I get rid of these uninstall and install errors on my stand alone mac?

    Thanks,

    Bill

  • If you look at the page where you can download the Windows version of the Enterprise product, about half way down are the links to the downloads for the Mac Enterprise product  The first Mac version is for use with the Management Console, the second is a stand-alone version that does not require the Management Console.  This is the one you would install to clean up old installations of SAV Enterprise.

However, if you have never installed the Enterprise product, installing the trial and uninstalling it is not likely to help.  The instructions for doing this are for users who have remnants of the Enterprise product installed already, but no longer have the uninstaller -- which prevents them from both uninstalling the Enterprise version and from installing the Home version.

I'll have to leave it to someone else to answer your real question; however, you might want to restart, do a filesystem check, and repair permissions.
