Sophos 8.0.1c - cannot enable on-access scan

I can't enable the on-access scan, it is completely greyed out.  Even when I select the unlock button it remains greyed out.  I've tried restarting, reinstalling, running all scans but there is no way to enable this.  I am the administrator on my account.

Any one else having this issue?

  • So I have to agree, it would be great to get some real instructions for repairing the issue.  I like the product (especially for the price).  As a security researcher, I need to know when the protection is on and when it is off.  I'm having the same issue with 8.0.6C... so whatever the problem, the past few updates have not corrected it.

  • Agree also. It would be nice if you could see an indication in the Sophos menu bar item that indicated whether on-access scanning was off or on. Some visual confirmation.

What I have started doing is once per week opening Sophos Preferences to check On-access Scanning tab to confirm it is still on. A simple indicator that is always visible would be nice.

  • I am also having this problem.  I tried using the remove tool, downloaded the new version, and did a manual re-installation.  I am still having the same issue.

  • Another me too post. I'm running v8.0.6c. I have restarted the machine, I have run manual update, and I have re-installed the app. I am unable to start the on-access scanning.

  • I alsop had the same problem with Sophos 8.0.6c.  After reading through the thread, I realised that my ADSl modem had not been switched on when booting up.  I therefore restarted my iMac and it worked.

  • I've tried this, and I get the error: "The preferences option specified has not taken effect in the on-access Scanner." Nothing works. This has been a live thread for quite a while, considering it's a security product that isn't functioning. Sophos, are you able to replicate it but can't find a fix, or something else?

I have uninstalled Sophos after 3 years of use and I am installing another AV scanner: it must be better than Sophos which turns itself off!!:smileymad:
