No Vimeo.com Videos being Shown

Hello there,

We cannot play any Vimeo videos by using the web filter.

I have found a video that is embedded on another page and we can play that but the same video cannot being played on the Vimeo website.

How can we play Vimeo videos? I don't think it's an exception problem.

    Within Vimeo.com when I click play I only see a black screen. Nothing is playing anyway.

    Interesting fact: I have just clicked on the button "embed" within the video frame area and it creates a piece of code that i can use for other pages to play the video in. BUT there is a preview as well which is being played so that I can see the video (like within a popup window on the same page).

    Weird.

    I just picked out a random video.

    The video using that link will not be played:
    ONE MINUTE OF CAPSICAL MUSIC on Vimeo

    But that link works:
    ONE MINUTE OF CAPSICAL MUSIC

    Creating a filter that deactivates all action (AV scanning...) for vimeo.com does not work either :-(

    Why comes that the videos with player.vimeo.com work and videos on vimeo.com not? I don't understand!

    Now I found out that even without using the webfilter the same problem occurs!

    Something like
    ^https?://[A-Za-z0-9.-]*vimeo.com/ 
    entered at URL Filtering/Always allow these URLs/sites and as a skipping exeption below Exceptions should do the job. I have streaming media filtered, too but if I set such an exception the site mentioned can always be accessed.

    I adjusted the exception that you described - still no success.

    I found out that it concerns all browsers. Also I cannot view the video in Vimeo itself with HTML5 or Flash Player. But with player.vimeo.com/video/###### it works for both players.

    Hello there!

    Update: 
    I want to re-open this issue because it is still unsolved. I managed to solve the actual problem but I do not understand the root cause.

    Problem:
    I only can see vimeo.com videos when embedded on another website or with the URL tweaks above. But directly on the Vimeo website I cannot playback any video.

    Solution:
    Vimeo does not seem to work with Multipath Routing on the Astaro. 
    We have a gateway pool of 3 Internet lines. Until now all web traffic from the clients of specific VLANs was forwarded to the Astaro and it has chosen the according gateway (Internet line).

    I set up an explicit Multipath Rule that tells that any client for the web surfing service that wants to access "vimeo.com" shall use i.e. Internet line 1. Now the videos can be displayed in the browsers.

    Question:
    Can anyone explain why the access to the video stream on Vimeo.com is blocked when using "Multipathing" and why it works when setting an explicit path for the webtraffic to/regarding Vimeo?

    Uwe, it's difficult to guess.  The log lines in Post #1 all show "pass".  The solution you found along with the log lines lead me to guess that the Vimeo player makes multiple connections for a single session, and that you either had no Multipath rule for http traffic, or that it used persistence by connection.

    as I found out finally the webfilter log lines basically were all the same.

    The http Multipath rules for the according VLANs have been set to let the Astaro decide which WAN gateway to choose. Using a browser's delevlopment tools I could see that after a "play_redirect" there was a "permission denied" regarding its response. Then there was a "buffer_stop" and nothing worked.

    With the explicit set WAN gateway for all of the VLANs (for Vimeo.com only as destination) the traffic in this case is bound to a specific line but it works at least.

    I couldn't find out whether Vimeo uses multiple connections. The ONLY similar symptoms I could read about was over here:

    Lucky for some of you here that Vimeo works sometimes. I have had this problem for probably upwards of 2 weeks now. Not a single Vimeo video will play, unless it's embedded. I've never had such a problem until recently. Firefox, Chrome, Safari on OS X 10.7.1, same behavior on 2 iMacs. Videos just don't start. Sadly, I don't think I can justify renewing Vimeo next time around.
