Failed to get scanner instance

Hello everybody,

since last night I've been getting errors when opening webpages saying 
Failed to get scanner instance
. Judging from the logfile it blocks every category.

Some research pointed me to older posts mainly saying this can happen if the box suddenly reboots. But my uptime is currently over 18 days.

Clients configured as transparent proxy exceptions can still access webpages normaly.

Does anybody have an idea?

    When I've seen this, it's been due to a problem with one of the AV patterns.  Try setting the web proxy to single-scan mode.  If that doesn't work, temporarily disable AV scanning and see if it helps.  This is a temporary measure until the next set of patterns is released.  What is your current pattern version?

    It appears that wasn't even necessary anymore. Just when I wanted to go and change the av settings it appears the box was installing a new version:
    2011:07:22-13:21:38 astaro auisys[11503]: Starting up2date package installation

    Pattern version now is 22530.

    No problem.  [:)]

    Just in case you ever run into this issue again and do need to disable one or both scanning engines, be aware that the patterns are only updated if the engine is enabled.  So, you would want to wait a day or two, when you're certain that a new pattern is available, then enable the faulty engine and kick off a manual pattern download.  This way you won't have to wait 15+ minutes for an auto-update to take place.

    Hi Scott,

    I've had the same problem yesterday. Disabling dual-engine worked. But I'm curious: Is this a problem with my Astaro installation or were there actual errors in the patterns published?

    I'm just trying to avoid running into this again in the future.
