UTM sometimes slow down.

Hi,

I'm deploy UTM Sophos on Vmware Esxi, using full transparent mode. The thing is sometimes, users connect to web very slowly. At that time, the WebAdmin is slow also. But if I ping UTM or ping 8.8.8.8, the speed is still good. 

But the more strange thing is that after I reset the UTM, the problem still happen. And after a period of time, everything is good again. Good status often last for about 2,3 days, and then the issue come. 

I also tried installing UTM on another server, but seems not work. 
Please give me some advice. Thank you so much.

    There's just not enough specific information to be able to guess.  I think you should have your reseller open a ticket with Sophos Support so that they can look at your UTM.

    I would start by logging into the console and running top so that you can look at it when a problem occurs.  Maybe some process is "eating" RAM.  How much memory does the UTM instance have allocated to it?

    Another thing to check, what CPU/RAM reservations do you have for the UTM VM on ESXi? And what loading are you seeing on the host for same at the time of the slowdowns?

    Web browsing can be slowed down by both the web proxy and IPS but ping won't. And as those two services are memory & CPU intensive, if the host is getting heavily loaded, ESXi will 'steal' from the UTM to give to other VM's (basically share the finite resources evenly among everyone).

    The UTM is running with 1 CPU  (4 cores) and 8GB RAM. When it slow down, on the dashboard I see the CPU is just 20% usage, and 50% with RAM. One more thing, on my VMWare ESXi, I only run UTM, there is not any else. 

    I'm running trial version, is it possible to open ticket?

    You can't go through regular support unless you have a paid license.  If you're working with a reseller, they can go through their inside rep at Sophos to get you pre-sales support.  These are usually very good engineers.

    if you have 8 gigs of ram in the host and you are allocating 8 gigs to the vm you are starving the host of ram.  Leave 2 gigs minimum for the host to use which means a maximum of 6 gigs for the utm and try again..[:)]

    I tried allocating 6 gigs ram for UTM, but it's still slow. But I realize that If I disable Web Filtering, the WebAdmin will be smooth. Then I enable it again and immediately, the WebAdmin slow down. So I think there is something wrong with Web Filtering. 

    Please give me some more advice.

    cpu 
    ram
    hard disk
    nics
    vmware version
    modules in use
    number if users
    lan speed
    wan speed
    number of vcpus allocated to vm
    amount of ghz allocated to vm

    3 NICS: 1 nic for management, 2 nics for bridge.
    Mode: Full transparent
    HDD: 500GB

    Number of users: 500-600

    how much of the total ghz have you allocated to the vm?  500-600 users?  you should have a paid license.  have yhou contacted support/your reseller?
