PPoE issue

Hi,

I have some issues with PPPoE daemon. Each time the UTM is rebooted fot any reason ,the interface seems to be up but I cannot connect to internet. If I mannually reconnect it works . No errors appear in the PPPoE logs.

If I try to ping an IP from internet I receive "destination net unreachable"

I am using UTM Home 9.201-25/ fiber to home internet connection.

Any ideas about this issue?

Regards,
Ghebosu

  • Hi, Ghebosu, and welcome to the User BB!

First, Up2Date to 9.203-3.  Do you still have the problem after that?  If so, what Ethernet NIC are you using for the WAN connection?

    Cheers - Bob

  • Hi BAlfson,

Thank you for your reply . Seems that my issue is not happening exactly after boot time but after 20 minutes or so. Suddenly it loses its routing table or some sort. If I manually re-connect it works.

Im using Sophos UTM in a VM (Esxi) , physical ethernet adaptares are broadcom.
  • In ESXi, did you select the VMXNET3 NICs?  What MTU have you configured in the interface definition - have you tried a lower one to see if that's an issue?  After that, try setting the NIC to fixed speed and duplex settings, rebooting both the modem and the UTM between changes.  Any luck?

    Cheers - Bob

  • Hi BAlfson ,
I've selected e1000.Based on what I've read so far , I understood that e1000 would be a better choice but I will try VMXNET3. MTU is 1492, I will lower it down and try to see what happens.Thank you.

    Regards,
    Ghebosu
  • Hi BAlfson,

I've changed the settings as instructed but it is the same. Each time the Sophos image reboots the connection to internet works for about 20 minutes and suddenly stops.If I reconnect manually it works again with no issues.

    Regards,
    Raul
  • Raul,

There is a problem at present with Intel e1000, so definitely change that to VMXNET3.  Even though it's in a VM, you might find some help from #7 in Rulz.  It really does sound like a hardware/firmware mismatch with the modem.

  • @Balfson e1000 nics are working fine.

  • BAlfson,

I'm not sure it is a hardware/firmware mismatch. I have fiber to home and auth method is through PPoE(no modem).I have VMXNET3 and same issue appears. The only log I captured and does not seem in order is this :
"2014:09:14-07:40:56 UTM dns-resolver[7308]: DNS server failed to contact!
2014:09:14-07:41:56 UTM dns-resolver[7308]: DNS server failed to contact!
2014:09:14-07:42:56 UTM dns-resolver[7308]: DNS server failed to contact!"

After I mannualy reconnect everything works fine:
    "

    Very strange.
