PPPOE with MTU higher than 1492 (rfc-4638)

Hi,

It looks like MTU values higher than 1492 are not supported on my current version 9.201-23

Can anyone please advise if this is supposed to be like this as I read it was already implemented on previous versions.

(Support PPPoE RFC 4638 (MTU > 1492))

If not, is there any way to set the MTU value permanently on the ppp0 interfaz?

    Did you look in and edit Interfaces and Routing > Interfaces > Edit Interface, Advanced?

    Interestingly, default ADSL 2+ is 1492, I changed mine to 1500 and forced a reconnect and with an MTU of 1500 re-connected and posting this over the link with an MTU of 1500.
    So, appears to be supported.

    In the UK ADSL could use PPPoA or PPPoE

    PPPoE requires a maximum MTU of 1492, PPPoA is 1500. Domestic routers frequently have 1492 default MTU

    Hi,

    Changing the value from the GUI does not actually change the value.

    You can double check by going to terminal and doing an ifconfig.
    If you instead change the value from the GUI to something lower than 1492 then it accepts that value.

    ppp0      Link encap[:P]oint-to-Point Protocol  
              inet addr:x.x.x.x  P-t-P:x.x.x.x  Mask:255.255.255.255
              UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST  MTU:1492  Metric:1


    Can anyone please confirm if this is a BUG or if there is a way (by running a script) to force 1500 automatically after a ppp session disconnect

    It is possible to set this via command line, but I don't understand what there is to gain by changing from 1492 to 1500...

    I think it might be:

    cc change_object REF_external mtu 1500


    Where REF_external is the REF for your ppp0 interface.  This can be found by:

    cc
    interfaces
    interfaces@
    exit


    Any change made from the command line risks losing support and warranty.

    Run the second set of commands first to learn the REF for the ppp0 interface, and then use that in the cc change_object command.
