SMTP Emails Delayed

Since Upgrading to V7 it I have noticed a significant delay in receiving messages.  Has anyone else noticed  this. 

Ex.  Signing up for this board yesterday after signup they send you a confrimation email.  I waited 10 mins and no email came so I re-signed up with a diffrent external email address (hotmail address) and the email was in my inbox right away.  However it finally showed up about 1 hour later in my office email.

    Antivirus Scanning is set to DUAL Scan
    Use Reccomended RBLs is Checked
    Using Use heuristic spam filter is checked
      warn is 4
      quarintine is 9

    I unchecked block residental hosts

    Is your server very busy?

    Server Stats show
    CPU 3%
    Memory 25% of 3547

    SMTP LOG, scanning a lot of SPAM?

    SMTP Has alot of entries
    here is the threat count for today
    Firewall:  65498 packets filtered 
    IPS:  0 attacks blocked 
    Anti-Virus:  4 items blocked 
    Anti-Spam:  50 emails blocked 
    Anti-Spyware:  0 items blocked 
    Web Filter:  0 URLs filtered 


    I have also heard complaints of users not reciving some external email since the firewall upgrade.  However I have not checked this out so Im not sure if its true.  I have checked the logs and quarintine and cannot find any instances of the messages they are inquiring about.

    If anything, email delivery seems to be faster ... hmm.  Since it sounds like you have a commercial license / appliance, I'd definitely start a case with Astaro.

    You ain't using pop3 Proxy, right? (with Prefetching).....

    I'm only talking about SMTP... I found the POP3 prefetching feature to be sketchy, so we don't recommend anyone use it... most of our clients all have internal SMTP servers anyway, so it's a non-issue in our case.

    do you have batv enabled if so that's explains why some do not recieve extenal mail.

    Decrease it to 60 seconds.

    check your mail server at http://mxtoolbox.com/diagnostic.aspx  I bet you're having "too many concurrent connections".  Basically, it rejects the connection and the sender will continue to try to resend until max connections is under 20.  In your case, I bet around an hour.  The maximum is 20 and unconfigurable in 7.***.  I have another thread regarding same, with no resolution.

      I ended up coming to the same conclusion.  I checked my stmp and filtered for rejected connections and it logged about 50 connections refused.  I have a support call in for astaro to change my smtp limit.  Should be upped tommorow.  I stoped scanning of outbound email on the astaro in the meantime as we have a couple levels of spam protection.
