SMTP recent failure

Hi,

The SMTP proxy has been working fine for weeks now, but this morning I was worried to find that I had no new external email waiting for me as usual.

A quick look into the log files showed entries similar to this:

This is a log file from this evening with the names changed to protect the innocent.

Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi,

    It looks like this is the start of the problem: 

    2007:03:17-07:49:57 (none) exim[25188]: 2007-03-17 07:49:57 1HSTel-0006Vm-TS 127.0.0.1 [127.0.0.1]:1234 Connection refused

    I've looked through the exim FAQ's and although there are some suggestions as to a resolution to this, it means editing configuration files, something that should not be needed.

    Is there anyway to "default" the exim installation without 1) losing my emails currently stuck in there, and 2) having to re-build the box?

    Hi,

    It's version 7.002.

    I'm also experiencing some strange activity with Gmail & Hotmail.

    If I use the Astaro as my outgoing mail relay, I cannot send to either companies, and instead get an automated response back from them saying that they have received an unusual amount of unsolicited email from this IP address.

    I've checked my mail server for any sign of being an open relay, and it's not.  

    If I then remove the astaro from the configuration, and let my mail server deliver directly, all works fine to both organisations - even though I still have the same external IP address??

    I can then reliably introduce the Astaro as the mail relay, and then let it deliver directly, and emails then fail again (only to those 2 organisations).  Is this due to my Astaro forwarded emails having an unrecognised digital certificate, or containing my public key?

    Inbound mail works fine whichever method I use.

    My inbound email has now stopped although outbound seems to be working still

    According to the Quarantine Manager I have 38 emails in quarantine - but I cannot get to any of them as they don't show up under any of the searches - so I can do nothing - I can't even kick the email system to start sending them, unless anyone has a way in the CLI.

    My mail server was down last night - but its up and running now, and does accept smtp mail. Astaro however won't send its stored email to the server........

    Latest patched version of Astaro BTW

    I also get the same error messages as FreudianSlip above.

    I have tried rebooting the FW AND stopping the SMTP Server for a while - nothing seems to release the email

    I found something about exim that says I should do this but as I am not a *Ix head I would rather get someone here to sanity check if possible first

    Just installed 7.003 - restarted and got 497 emails!

    Most of which are delivery failure notifications ... My emails to gmail are now accepted by gmail now too?

    I've just checked the announcements and there's no mention of 7003.. in fact the only reason I knew about it was the previous poster, and the nice chaps from Astaro UK whom I met at InfoSec yesterday.

    Is there an official announcement along with a list of bug fixes somewhere?

    What hardware are you running ?
    We are running 
    ASG220 - V6
    ASG220 - V7
    ASG320 - V7

    Mail Server Novell Groupwise 7 - We have had NO issues with SMTP delivery here, it is very important to decide if you are "Self Hosting" or using a SMART Host, when sending ..post here we will try to help

    This is my SMTP proxy log (i clean external account email and public ip for privacy reason)

    Log has many of raws like these

    This morning i looked my proxy queue and the most part of message was away.
    I found only four message and two with Force Delivery went out proxy queue.
    I wander if they are send or not because in my log i am not able to find its raws.

    So.. 

    I applied 7.004 and these emails came flooding through.

    Is there something that happens as part of a firmware upgrade that somehow clears the log jam - as this is twice the emails have been released after a firmeware upgrade.

    I believe there was a fix in v7.004 for the exim issue.

    Hmmm - not here. I rebuilt my Astaro box and moved it to elsewhere on my network at home (licensing issue) but still use it as an SMTP relay. After a week I have 10 unaffected (the catagory) emails stuck in the Astaro FW with no way of getting at them. They do not appear in Quarantine Manager.

    I am on V 7.004
    Running Astaro's Virtual Appliance.

    However I should add that I do NOT appear to be getting the retry limit error that was occurring previously...
