e1000 resetting

i'm having *QUITE* a bit of an issue with a "new" UTM 9.203 install
the NIC is RESETTING wreaking havoc in comms.

i've googled and this seems to be a problem with a lot of linux installations.

so far themost useful: kernel modules - Linux e1000e (Intel networking driver) problems galore, where do I start? - Server Fault
says about running kernel with ASPM disabled, how do i do this?, or am i better off opening a support ticket(which brings me to the issues that this is running on a trial lic on software until the HW SG arrives...)

    I was running into the exact same issue: e1000 hanging under large file loads.

    What worked for me was: ethtool -K eth0 tso off

    I don't know what the difference between tso and gso/gro is but as soon as I typed in that command it started to work properly.

    This affects me too with my intel nics. Bummer it wasnt fixed in 9.3

    Yes, it would be nice. It's been a very long time. I'm tempted to replace my NICs but I don't know what I'd replace the [FONT="Calibri"]Intel Pro/1000 Dual port Server Adapters with[/FONT].

    I looked at the HCL (https://sophserv.sophos.com/repo_kb/118185/file/118185_HCL9001.pdf) and I saw Broadcom 5709's listed but not 5709C. Is there a difference? Is the 5709C (BCM95709A0906G) compatible?

    C'mon Sophos, this bug has been out there for over a year. You cant possibly be still looking at this issue, are you? Honestly, they probably dont care because their hardware doesnt use this chipset. I guess we get what we pay for [[:)]]

    this is an INTEL driver issue not a Sophos one.  Sophos is unfortunately at the mercy of Intel on this one.

    Does every firewall out there crash this way with this chipset? Of course not.. You dont think, with them knowing the work arounds, that they could somehow implement those UNTIL they get better drivers from intel? You honestly think that their hands are that tied? 

    What about every other linux server with this chipset, are they also all crashing?

    I have a client with a spare server of mine with an ebedded netextreme II nic and it works fine.

    From Broadcom's pages:

    NetXtreme II 1Gb
    BCM5706, BCM5706S, BCM5708, BCM5708S, BCM5709C, BCM5709S, BCM5716, BCM5716S

    so the one driver should cover all of those.
