Hello, i have a problem with the hardware 525F astaro.
he device keeps freezing becomes unresponsive and has to be rebooted even at the instalation/formatting level.

I have swapped out both HDD's with brand new ones and the problems still occurs.

Is there a diagnostic tool provided that i can run to check what part of the hardware has a problem?

    What version of Astaro - 8.300?  How long have you had this ASG?

    The item came from a company that upgraded they're hardware and got rid of the old. It came with no license/subscription/documentation. But from what i know it was in working condition. And from my experience except for the freezes it is still in working condition. RAID array was busted though had to remake and reformat. So anything that was installed is no longer present. Including any possible license keys.

    Could be failed fans.

    I opened the case all fans are intact and working, also nothing looks burned and nothing seems too hot, its quite cool actually.

    I have it for a month now but only this week had time to get my hands dirty.

    Astaro 8.202 was the version of the image i acquired a couple days ago.

    I would like to fix it for personal use, also to use as a demo platform for company's that require security hardware. I work as a IT specialist.

    EDIT: I managed to find out when it was acquired by the previous owner it was sometime in october 2008.

    If it has a VGA port, hook up a keyboard and monitor, and put MemTest86 on a CD or USB stick and run it to test for bad RAM.

    blow out that dust on the fans then test the memory , then test power supplies for voltage drop. That should do it. Anything else is SOL time with firmware updates.

    Ran Memtest86 for 3h, it did 3 passes no problems detected.

    The inner of the case is from a dust point of view pristine, surprised me too. How do i proceed to test voltages?

    pull one ps out. test ...beeps are ok. if she works its ps.

    pull out that raid card and riser if ps are good. connect hds directly to mb. load windows not astaro.

    I'm willing to bet that your raid card is messed up. WHY was that raid card touched in the first place?  Most likely someone else had the same problem. Your raid WILL cause freezing if not configured correctly or corrupted fw.

    go to id PCI Vendor and Device Lists of that raid card. Try to get firmware updates using windows then go to astaro when stable. Hope that helps.

    I am not so sure if a hardware raid makes sense in a machine running ASG at all. The ASG is not  able to watch the health state of a raid, you can only let it run until the raid breaks.
    On my ASG I use a single and robust SATA HDD supporting 24/7 on duty only. If the HDD fails I take another pre-installed HDD (Installation routine completed without rebooting the machine), install the license, import the config and the machine is back and running in about 15 minutes. Try to manage that in this time with a raid-equipped server.
