Roll back Firmware?

Is there any way to roll back firmware? 8.101 HTTP/S has completely screwed up our proxy settings and I need to get this solved an hour ago.

  • Export a Backup from the old version.

reinstall the base system by the astaro usb stick (if you have one) or by usb cd rom.

    restore the backup.

The whole process need about 20 till 30 minutes.
  • Currently the procedure R2K lists is the only way to do this.  Make sure you dowload the backup that is from Version 8.100 before you reinstall-backups from newer versions often will not install on an appliance running an older Version.  To be safe, I'd download several of your automated backups before reinstalling.

  • Downloading the 8.003 image now for my Smart Installer. I have the backups set to email to me so I have all of them saved already. I guess I will start this procedure as soon as the ISO downloads (about 30mins).
  • What is the easiest way to restore the backup after it comes up? USB stick and CLI? What is the command? It has been awhile since I did an install from the Smart Installer.
  • As part of the boot-up process, Astaro checks for an .abf file on any plugged in USB stick.  If it finds one and can read it, it will apply that backup file.  This works with some sticks and not others for whatever reason.  I have an older low MB stick that works well, so that's the one I use for this process.  Even if it doesn't work with your stick, as part of the initial configuration with a fresh install you will be given the oportunity to upload and apply a .abf backup file (I think it's on the second page).  You lose the unattended automation, but it will only take a few seconds of extra work on your part.

  • Thanks Scott. I used a SanDisk Cruzer 4Gb stick and it had no problems auto loading the backup when it booted up.
