As part of the boot-up process, Astaro checks for an .abf file on any plugged in USB stick. If it finds one and can read it, it will apply that backup file. This works with some sticks and not others for whatever reason. I have an older low MB stick that works well, so that's the one I use for this process. Even if it doesn't work with your stick, as part of the initial configuration with a fresh install you will be given the oportunity to upload and apply a .abf backup file (I think it's on the second page). You lose the unattended automation, but it will only take a few seconds of extra work on your part.
