New Astaro Install = Slow Internet, advice please

I have just installed Release 7.504. The problem is that my download speed, which is normally about 1000KB second has gone down to about 300KB a second? 

I have installed onto a VMware 1.0.9 Virtual machine with 1GB RAM and a single processor 3ghz. Host is 3 Ghz CPU, 3 GB RAM. I have intentially not configured any of the additional features of astaro, so the only thing I have configured is the Packet Filter, with the following rules: 

internal network>outbound>Internet allow all,

internet>inbound>all traffic deny.

Has anyone else has similar issues? Could anyone please offer me any advice?

    how many other vm's are on the box?  On the vm's nic do you have the QOS turned on?

    It is currently the only VM. The external interface has a dedicated bridge to NIC. The internal int is shared with the host. I wouldnt expect that to have an impact on download speeds.

    it might depending on the usage and priority settings of the nic between the host and the vm.  Are you using esxi or something else as the hypervisor?

    Ahhh, yeah sorry. It is VMware Server 1.0.9.

    Im not aware of the type of setting you are talking about, but I will have a look tomorrow to see if such settings exist. I wouldnt imagine anything on the host side would be using the nic though, as it is physically connected strait to the bridged router.

    aha if you are using vmware server that's probably your issue.  what version of windows is underneath?  I was working off an assumption of esxi not vmware server..[:)]  I've not seen decent performance form vmware server on newer operating systems as vmware has all but stopped development of that platform.

    XP. I initially had it installed on virtual box... but after discovering that Virtualbox doesnt allow the VM to Auto start and shutdown with the host... I switched to VMware server. Didnt test the speeds through the Virtualbox setup.

    you are running an old vmware.  they do have 2.0.x available.  I would suggest upgrading your vmware to the latest version first of all.

    I have never successfully been able to get VMware server 2 to install correctly on XP....Thats a whole other story.

    Are you asking this in regards to installing VMware server 2 or regarding the existing installation?

    I have no desire to waste anymore time trying to install VMware Server 2. 

    Regarding the Astaro... I have tried running with the host firewall (comodo) switched off, with the same results. I do have antivir installed, but I wouldnt expect that the interfere with anything.

    When I get the time, I will install Astaro directly to the physical machine, and check throughput to determine whether something with the virtualisation is the issue. But... I don't wish to do this as the long term solution.
