New Astaro Install = Slow Internet, advice please

I have just installed Release 7.504. The problem is that my download speed, which is normally about 1000KB second has gone down to about 300KB a second? 

I have installed onto a VMware 1.0.9 Virtual machine with 1GB RAM and a single processor 3ghz. Host is 3 Ghz CPU, 3 GB RAM. I have intentially not configured any of the additional features of astaro, so the only thing I have configured is the Packet Filter, with the following rules: 

internal network>outbound>Internet allow all,

internet>inbound>all traffic deny.

Has anyone else has similar issues? Could anyone please offer me any advice?

    vmware server isn't a long term solution either.  either use esxi or run the ASL directly on the hardware.  I have run vmware 2.x on xp successfully but i would not put that configuration into production at all.

    As it is a home environment...if VMware server would work...I would have no issue using this as my virtualisation platform. Last night, I installed astaro on the physical hardware, and did not experience the same issues.... this isolates something with the virtualisation as the cause... Unfortunatly, I bought additional RAM with the intention of this Server to act as a virtual server, therefore, I would prefer to achieve successful results in a virtualised environment

    use ESXi......you will find it FAAAAR superior to vmware server in nearly EVERY way

    if you are using realtek or marvel nic those are going to be another potential issue...switch to intel or bradcom nics.

    the 2 pci nics are 3com....not sure about the built in, ill see how they go

    good catch.  i forget this sometimes, as i keep a stock of intel and broadcom nics.  i never use onboard or realtek for anything unless i know it works (windows boxes, etc)

    Yeah.... The Esxi server is up and running....had a few problems, the NICS being one of the. Astaro seems to be running happily, will post in another section with any problems I am having. 

    Regarding the Esxi setup... Initially I installed 4.1 which did not recognise my 3com NICS. Fortunately, 3.5 did, except it would not install onto my sata hard drive, until modifications were made to a file during the install process.
