Install of ASG 8 fails on HP ML350 G3 and DL360 G3

Yesterday I tried to update an existing ASG 7.505 to v8 by using the downloaded ISO image. Install works fine, all devices detected, no errors.

However, upon first reboot the server will reset itself or simply hang while loading the GRUB loader from the MBR. Not even an error message from GRUB appears.

I tried twice in different servers, but same effect. Is this a known issue?

    Hi,

    The dl360 g3 "should" have a 5i controller as well, as per their spec list. That problem you see of it installing fine and then failing to boot may have to do with your APIC settings in the bios. however it is currently set, you might try changing it the other way. That 5i controller is expected to work with V8, as the driver support IS there, however a hang up just at the start like that feels like an array/bios setting which could fix it.

    I will try a factory reset on the BIOS, boot again, and if that still doesn't work play with the APIC settings. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting GRUB to be dependent on APIC, but I am willing to learn [:)]

    Do your CPUs support 64 bit? If not, have you tried installing the 32 bit kernel?
    Can you provide installation logs?

    Make sure you are using the image asg-8.000-7.1.iso and not ssi-8.000-7.1.iso. I have seen two people do that this week, both were baffled because the install starts and runs and just before it finishes bam. They both were so happy to see V8 they did not read far enough.

    you can switch with Alt-F2 to a console during the install
    then do the following:

    #touch /tmp/noreboot
    #ai net up
    #ai ssh

    The install.log is under /var/log/.

    I would be installing to my HP ML110 Server later today and update you all.

    But I am kind of worried when I saw this 32bit and 64bit?

    I seriously do not know my 4 year old server but I assume during installation the thing will know what to install?

    Thanks, I just confirmed the file to be asg-8.000-7.1.iso, so I am using the correct download. Furthermore, the error does not happen during the install, only at the time of the reboot.

    From the packages being installed I assume both 32 and 64 bit kernels and rpms are installed side by side. But that is just my observation, as I haven't been able to boot into the installed system.

    A 4 year old server should be 64 bit, the G3 we are talking about here are more like 5+.

    1) HP Proliant ML110 ( I think it is also call G3)
    2) Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz (It would appear twice during hardware detection but I do not see dual CUP in the GUI)
    3) 01 x Build in Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
    4) 02 x PCI Add On Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5705_2 Gigabit Ethernet
    I installed Version 8.0 with 64bit Kernel ( It does ask you during installation)
    It boots up fine and loaded the 7.505 Backup perfectly, no known issues so far.
    Note: I did "Upgrade" My license at MyAstaro and Applied to 7.505
