Install of ASG 8 fails on HP ML350 G3 and DL360 G3

Yesterday I tried to update an existing ASG 7.505 to v8 by using the downloaded ISO image. Install works fine, all devices detected, no errors.

However, upon first reboot the server will reset itself or simply hang while loading the GRUB loader from the MBR. Not even an error message from GRUB appears.

I tried twice in different servers, but same effect. Is this a known issue?

    I tried to install v8 on our HP DL360 and I can't get this thing boot. I have tried everything I can think of to get this thing to boot v8. v7.5 and all the older versions have all worked fine.

    Hi snappr and rbremer, and welcome to the User BB!

    It sounds like you both have a bad CD.  Try burning the CD at a much-lower speed.  If that doesn't work, then check Alt-1, Alt-2 and Alt-3 to see if you get a hint about the problem.  If you can't see anything, then try downloading again, but that's rarely the issue.

    Thank you for your advice. However, booting of and installing from the burned CD does work without issues, all packages get installed without an error up until the final reboot.
    The system hangs when booting of the newly installed system.

    Do your CPUs support 64 bit? If not, have you tried installing the 32 bit kernel?
    Can you provide installation logs?

    Did you try the Alt-keys during the reboot to see where it hangs?  Neither of those devices should have any problem.

    CPU does support 64bit. I'll look up the model number and post it here later.

    Is there any way to force installation of the 32bit kernel? Please remember, I cannot select anything in grub, it doesn't come that far. So I assume the issue is way before the kernel gets into play.

    I am not sure what you mean by that. Does pressing Alt during grub load phase bring up any kind of debug? As I said earlier, its not yet booting into the kernel, its loading the first part of grub from the mbr.

    Built in Smart Array. ML 350 has a 5i and DL 360 6i (if I am not mistaken, but I will verify that).

    Hard disks are 2x 72 GB HP hard disks, RAID-1 configured.

    I don't remember which is which, but Alt-1, Alt-2 and Alt-3 bring up different info during booting.  Both of those HP servers are oldolder than yours, Barry, and doing hardware RAID, so I can't see that as an issue.
