Unable to install

I'm unable to install Astaro gateway onto my hardware, but both Untangle and Smoothwall install without issues.

The Astaro installation hangs at step 3. I believe it may be an issue with Astaro not liking the SATA disk controller.

    OK, here's an update...

    Installed Windows XP on the box, downloaded the BIOS updater, updated, and then attempted to install Astaro again. Same errors as before. I burned a new copy of the installation disk at the lowest speed and it didn't install either.

    In addition to Untangle and Smoothwall, Endian also installs on the box with no issues.

    I've put Smoothwall back on just to have a working internet connection, and I'm going to get an old IDE hard disk from a friend on Monday. I'll try to install onto that and see what happens, as I really suspect that Astaro does not like my current SATA controller.

    Hi,
    I have the same behavior while trying to install ASG 7.5 on an IBM x3350 System.
    On the Console it stops on Step 3
    When pressing Alt + F3 it tells me at the end:
    Trying to mount /dev/sr0 on /install
    Error Mount: no medium found on: /dev/sr0
    Error No installation CD

    after that I tried to install from an externam USB CD Drive - same error.

    Hi bkendall,
    what motherboard are you using? Have you checked the hcl to see if you sata driver is supported. It might be just config of the sata controller that is causing the problem, try putting sata controller into raid mode.

    Martin, what device is an sro, sounds like a strange cd reader?
     Further, sounds like the controller is an IBM proprietary chip which is not supported. Do you have an ide controller card you could try.

    Hi RFCat_vk,
    it seems to work . Finally I removed the IBM CD/DVD and installed just from the external USB DVD Writer. The Hardware was found as expexted including the onboard RAID System.

    The motherboard is a MSI MS-7255 v2. The chipset is a VIA VT8237A, which I'm pretty sure isn't on the list of supported hardware.

    I've tried the SATA in RAID mode to no effect.

    Ok...

    I disconnected the SATA disk and connected an old IDE drive. The installation progressed and says it successfully completed, but upon reboot GRUB does its thing and then I get a blank console. Hitting CTL-ALT-F2, F3, etc gives me nothing.

    I let the system sit like this for 20 minutes before I hit the power button. I restarted, and got the same thing again.

    Is it possible for me to edit the ISO image and copy the drivers I need over? I have no idea how to even go about doing that.

    Hi, try changing the LBA mode in the BIOS (and re-installing). LBA or LARGE usually work best.

    Unfortunately, the BIOS is spartan when it comes to hard drive options. I can enable one or both controllers, and go from IDE to RAID mode. That's it.

    I'm beginning to think that running Astaro on this box just isn't in the cards.

    Same Problem here...

    That's the second system I bought for the ASG, cause it didn't work on the previous PC [:(]

    I think this was it, I won't buy another system for ASG and I will look around for another firewall.
