[7.403] WAN NIC Down after up2date to 7.403!

I tried the up2date again; lost network again... tried lowering the network link to 100 or 10mbps but it never worked... I could ping the gateway for short periods with about 90% loss, still kept seeing messages in the kernel log like
2009:06:08-18:14:27 fw kernel: e1000e: eth0 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: None

I take it you are seeing the issue on the last machine listed in your signature... I've installed the 7.403 up2date on several different units that use the e1000 driver, but haven't seen that problem yet... do you see link issues on the ports if you connect them to a different switch?

I experienced the same problem this evening with two separate machines (one a VIA C7 EN1500 & one an Intel Atom).  
Both machines have dual-port Intel gigabit cards in them. (Pro1000-MT series)
After updating to v7.403, both machines booted back up, but could only be accessed via the internal NIC interface.  Inside each, the "External" interface (hooked up to a cable modem via DHCP on both computers) was "Down".  I tried "Renewing" the lease with the gray button next to the interface icon, but it never would stick.  

Here's how I fixed it:

I next restarted the machine (soft-reboot).  Same issue on both machines.
I then, from within WebAdmin, clicked the "Shutdown" button and completely shutdown the machine.
When I powered it back up, everything came back online and was working just like in 7.402.  I called the family members to whom I manage their firewall for (the Atom system) and walked them through logging in and doing the "Shutdown", and their system too came right back up.  They had previously tried physically cycling power & physically turning the machine off, and neither of those actions corrected the problem we saw.  

To recap:  The only way I was able to get each firewall back online was to physically login on the "internal" interface and use the "Shutdown" button in WebAdmin.  When the machines were physically turned back on, the NIC's all came back up and normal firewall operation returned.  

I've had v7.403 running on both machines for about 5hrs now & so far so good.

As weird as it sounds, I too tried powering off the systems and the ONLY way I could get both back up was actually going into Webadmin and clicking on the "Shutdown" button.  Then I powered each back up and all network interfaces came back alive.  Kind of a strange issue!

I can confirm that on both machines, I did watch the update progress in the pop-up window and both updates completed successfully (according to the pop-up) and each machine DID restart itself and load back up as normal (the only issue being the External interface never would come back up).

the first release from the ftp-servers or the officialy, over the up2date mechanism, released?
My MSI IM-945GSE-A Board works well with the "offical" released 7.403.

I'm having the same issue.  I'm running 3Com 905CX-TXM NICs.  After installing the update (from the up2date mechanism) my external NIC just goes up and down with every page auto-refresh.

I'm not sure what to do with it.  I've tried full reboots, reboots from the GUI, disabling + enabling the interface, setting the interface to static IP, and various other things.

I used the released one via up2date, after my firewall emailed me that it was 'ready for installation'.

Do you have a DHCP connection on your WAN, and is it eth0?

I could try that later, but the change list doesn't have anything about NICs.

I do have a DHCP connection to my WAN, but it's on ETH1 (if I remember correctly).

I hope they figure something out.  I guess I better dig out that old LinkSys router for the time being, haha.

Or copy a backup off of the firewall, and re-install 7.402 from ISO.
My switch needs Astaro for the VLANs, so my Linksys isn't a good drop-in replacement for the fw.

If that works, Astaro would like SSH access into the box.

I can't afford to try 7.403 again right now, but may later.

have same problem here , after upgrade 7.403 , dhcp cable modem are up and down.
all working fine on previous 7.403.
have made update from regulare update system.
maybe need another update to fix this problem.

And I double checked, my WAN link is on ETH2, which is one of the Broadcom NICs that I listed before.

Having the same problem as described (WAN DHCP up then down).  Working around the problem by editing the WAN adapter.  Go to WebAdmin -> Network -> Interfaces -> Edit -> Type = Ethernet Standard.

I have had a wierd problem like this years ago with an Intel NIC and an older Astaro installation (not this up2date, though) ... try locking down the speed / duplex setting on the problem interface(s) in the Astaro Configuration.
