iTunes/Apple updates kill WAN connection

UTM 9.206-35 Software.  When someone on the internal or guest network connects and tries to update itunes or a MAC, the interface shows an ERROR and only allows that Apple device to get to the internet.  All other internet goes down. 
If I turn the Web filter off, it works fine. 
Any thoughts?
I've since blocked both apps but I'm curious why it's only on my UTM and not on others.  I rebuilt mine this past Spring so it's not an issue with older versions getting corrupted.

    Yep - I've go it happening here also.  Last week the President fired up iTunes and started downloading ios 8 and although his download was running at full speed, all outbound external traffic was halted.  I googled this, but until today did not see anything.

    Not too sure what's up with the Apple traffic, but it sure messes with the UTM!

    Does anyone know what the status of this is?  We are running 9.205-12.

    It's almost like it's doing a broadcast storm?  Weird how it seems to take over the WAN interface and only allows itself access.  If we turn the Proxy off, internet works but the interface still shows "ERROR".  If I cut the connection of the offending computer, the ERROR goes away and everything's fine.

    It's iTunes/Apple update.  PCs cause the same issue when itunes wants to update.  MACs and iPhones cause it also when they update their OS.  What is it about the connection they are creating?

    not seeing that here.  i had an ipad and iphone BOTH updating at the same time without incident.  Also have several clients that have idevices on their networks without issues at all.  I'm curious if the WAN on these connections is of low quality or speed or both?

    We have a 10meg connection and are also running a SIP trunk so I have QOS setup to reserve 10% of the bandwidth.  There are lots of times that a download (or multiple downloads) will eat up the pipe, but with no ill effects.  Apple, on the other hand simply whacks out the UTM.  I currently have it blocked.

    I will be opening up a case with Sophos today.

    We have had Apple/iTunes blocked since I first reported our experience earlier in this thread.  Last week we updated to 9.208-8 and over the weekend we removed all the blocks and did a lot of testing trying to re-create the issue, but with no ill effects!  Not sure if one of the recent firmware updates fixed the issue or perhaps we just had a miraculous healing of our UTM.

    I did have an open case with Sophos on this and have reported back and asked them to close my ticket.

    All is well again in UTM land!
