False positive Internet uplink is down emails

Hello,

I'm running the free version 8.300 and I'm getting several emails daily reporting my Internet uplink is down.  I know these are false positives because I have received these emails while on a VoIP call and don't loose the connection.

My ISP is Time Warner Cable and I have a Motorola SurfBoard SBG6580 modem.  My uplink interface is a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5751 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express NIC.

What is the trigger mechanism for determining that the uplink is down and what steps can I take to eliminate them?

    Ron, if this is your home, and you have no service-level guarantees, then this is just one of those things that happens.  If you'd not had the Astaro in place, I think you'd have seen that you couldn't load a web page even though the VoIP call continued to function.

    The only guess I could make that might improve your situation would be to replace your DNS Forwarders with ones from OpenDNS or another non-ISP.

    Thanks for replying Bob.  I'm using google's DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).  Everything seems to continue to work even though astaro thinks the uplink is down.   I was just curious about what exactly triggered astaro into thinking the uplink is down.

    i'm getting this on multiple 8.3 installations as well and all but one is business class.  there's not actual problems as all web surfing and voip and streaming work without in issue.  I am thinking it is an errant bug somewhere.

    I see this at home a lot (on TW), even while surfing, but never on our co-lo firewalls.

    IIRC, you can change the IP that is pinged for the uplink check.

    It would be nice though if there was a threshold that could be set to make it a little less sensitive.

    I agree that some type of threshold adjustment would be nice.  I wonder if this capability is used in any HA fail-over scenarios and is causing unnecessary fail-overs.

    At least it's good to know that I'm not the only one seeing this.
