Wan link error

I'm having a problem with my ASG v8.103 where every few days my WAN link (cable modem) shows it's status as being up, but the state as up but the status as error and I have no internet connection.  Unfortunately when this happens the only way to correct it is to turn the interface off and back on again.  Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening or to have it automatically recover itself from this situation?

    Is this issue happening on 8.0/8.1 and/or also on 8.2?

    In 8.2 the DHCP client software was replaced by ISC dhclient. This replacement should increase the compatibility, all major linux distributions use ISC dhclient. Cable Modem works for me without any issue at home (8.1 and 8.2) ...

    As in a previous message explained ERROR state means either Uplink Balancing or Internet Monitoring is enabled and no Internet connectivity is detected.

    If you mail me your system.log files and/or a tcpdump capture for several minutes while this issue is happening would be very helpful: uweber@astaro.com

    i have already downgraded so...
    the error is pressent on the 8.201
    im running 8.103 now and no error so far.

    To summary this up a bit:

    7.x used the dhcpcd of Phystech
    8.0 and 8.1 used the dhcpcd of Rodney Marples
    8.2 uses the ISC dhclient

    So far I identified one issue in 8.2. This one is triggered if the system is shutdown and restarted again during the renew time. Note: normal system reboots work. The lease time has to be in renew state during system start.

    I'm not aware of any support case having an DHCP issue. So if you want to help me to debug this issue, please send me your a short summary with system version, system.log, mdw-debug.log and service_monitor.log files to uweber@astaro.com

    Team, i have a custom hardware with similar errors.  At my end my WAN link just goes down then up in few seconds. Happens more than once or twice a day. Cable company is set to dhcp but when the issue occurs my ip doesnt change, it hasnt changed in months. 
    I have 8.201 installed and to be sure reolaced all hardware and a fresh install.  Let me know what i can upload to help trubleshoot

    Mike, this is a problem you can't fix.  You need to complain to your ISP.

    If you are using this for HOME use than ok DHCP is good enough for you but you will feel the wrath of "renew and release" based on your cable provider and or your plastic router they gave you.

    If you are using this for business than get Static IP for $20 bucks more or something cheaper. Just not worth the time.

    As simple work around that prolongs the time to renew and release for DHCP is to go into gui of your CABLE router and set DHCP renew time to MAXIMUM ...try 999999999 and it should return a value of between

    1min and X minutes. Take the longer one. Power failure or reboot will play musical ips but again for HOME use only this should help.

    Just for everyone's knowledge, in my case this was related to the ISP who confirmed 6 or more drops in the last 24 hours.

    I also have a problem wan link error
    my configuration:
    ADSL-1
    cable modem (DHCP) --> Router (linksys, ip static -GW 192.168.10.101) --> Astaro 8.202 all works well 

    I wanted to do uplink balancing (for tested)
    i connected to the internet from my friend

    ADSL-2
    cable modem (pptp, or l2tp -I do not remember) --> router (tp-link, ip static -GW 192.168.0.1) --> i connected via AP (level one -connection as a bridge) --> astaro 8.202 -but I get the link error even with off uplink balancing !

    at disabled ADSL-2, link UP


    at enabled ADSL-2, link error



    and sometimes even this


    anyone ever have any ideas ?

    Have you clicked on the status button for ADSL2 on the Interfaces page to activate it?
