Upgrade - 110

how many RAM have a 110?(manufactured 110) i don't have it, but i think buy it.

New ASG 110/120'S come with 1GB RAM.

can i upgrade ram? how much this upgrade?

Yes and No. The ASG 110/120 can support more then 1GB a long as it fits on a single DDR2 stick. *HOWEVER*, Astaro does not support that configuration and it will void your warranty if you do so.

i would buy to use with free license for a littel VPN.

The essential edition (the free version) has limited support for VPN, only supporting Remote Access via PPTP & L2TP. If you want the Site-2-Site, IPSEC, and/or SSL VPN's you'll need to purchase the proper licenses.

can i upgrade to version 8?

All the hardware versions of Astaro can upgrade to v8 via the built-in up2date system. Upgrading clusters is supposed to be supported in the 7.510 version which is due out pretty quick here.

There's some misinformation here...

Older ASG110/120 units had only 512MB, and only supported that, the chipset doesn't support more than 512MB.  Newer Units (they will be marked on the bottom as Rev.1 or Rev.2) can support up to 1GB of RAM maximum, and I believe the old Rev. 2 boxes shipped with 512MB (but can be upgraded by replacing the RAM DIMM).

If you're buying it used, there's no warranty / support on it from Astaro, so if the unit is a newer one, you can upgrade it to 1GB (if needed) with a standard DDR DIMM.

Version 8 will load on an old appliance that has only 512MB of RAM, but it's very slow and not recommended or supported at all... 1GB is the new minimum for that.

I honestly don't remember (very few customer units were able to be upgraded, most we had were replaced by newer ones)... I think it might be plain DDR.

Dune, I made a small correction to my post above; Rev 1 and Rev 2 appliances shipped with 512MB, but are upgradeable.  Rev.3 ships with 1GB installed.

I'd have to double check what RAM was in the ASG 110/120 but I think older ones may have used DDR-333 or DDR-400 RAM.

Now how much is the seller asking for the unit? I ask because you can build a brand new Intel Atom D510 or D525 based firewall for around $350 that'll blow the socks off the older ASG hardware.

Not all revisions of ASG 110/120s can be upgraded.  The Rev.0 version can't be upgraded at all, for instance.
