Link Aggregation

I might be missing something vary obvious here, but why except because you can would you want to pump 4gb of traffic through your ASG. It isn't as though your external interface in capable of passing that amountof traffic.
A more logical setup would be a local smart switch that does link aggregation and only has one port through to the ASG. That way you high performance without unnecessarily burdening your perimeter defence.
ASGs are meant for protecting the traffic in and out of your site.
Switches are meant for high speed internal connections. Smart switches are quite cheap eg Netgear GS108T.

Good input, Ian.  It's true that it's straightforward to do this with Link Aggregation on the Astaro, and that doing so would, in essence, create a DMZ with 2GB of bandwidth, but the bottleneck is the 1GB connection to the internal network - thus, no gain from the Link Aggregation.

Daniell, if you want the server in a DMZ, why not use Ian's suggestion for internal users and also add another NIC to the server for connection to the Astaro DMZ interface?  That's an approach we've taken several times before.

PS In fact, we've also merged both of your ideas.  Two dual NICs. Link Aggregation of port1 on both and of port2 on both.  Now, if eaither NIC dies, both the DMZ and the internal network is still served.  Some people might go so far as to add switches for more redundancy, but I'd rather have a quality, robust switch that never dies.  So, if you don't have enough servers to warrant multiple backbone switches, I wouldn't spend any money on a cheap switch if you value uptime.

My situation was that i had a new and never used Intelpro 1000PT/ 2ports nic, that I mounted into the Astaro box today. 
I thought i could benefit the extra nic's with getting better performance and speed..  

But it didn't turn out as I expected. 
I started a new fresh installation of the ASG v8,  Astaro recognized the new nic's and everything went well until I connected first time "Basic system setup" I filled out the fields and clicked "Perform basic system setup" After that, nothing more happen. It doesn't go to the next setup screen.. I have tried several times to install the ASG with other connection to different nic's ..

What can be wrong..??
My thought is now ! The new installed IntelPro/1000PT is not supported of ASG v8..

Anybody have a solution for this..

I finely fount a solution for this..
I downloaded the ASG 8.001 version, and  installed ok..

In my ASG Hardware, it shows:

I belive it's not correct driver loaded !!

If it's working, then the correct driver must be loaded.

Did you use a version 8.000 ISO? then you ran into the Y2k38 problem.

Download an 8.001 (or - brand new - 8.002!) ISO and use this, then it should work.

ABout the link aggregation: does the server also have two NICs and does the servers OS also support link aggragation by IEEE802.ad ?
Otherwise you´ll not need link aggragation on the ASG, too.

Yes, this is what i did, I downloaded the ASG 8.001, and all works now, eccept, 
I Don't think the ASG have loaded the correct driver for this nic.. Se earlier post here.

Link aggregation.
My server has 2 pro/1000 nic's, "Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network..", 
and it's running CentOS 5.5, so it should be able to bound nic's and support IEEE802.xx  

ASG box has 4 nic's..
2, Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
2, Fujitsu Intel pro/1000 Intel Corporation 82571EB Gigabit Ethernet Controller "Eth Ctrl 2x1Gbit PCIe Pro/1000PT Cu lp"

I've been looking into IRFCat_vk suggestion here, but i'm not sure if i understand him correctly.  
I do have a extra switch here laying around Netgear GS108T
 I have 20mbps fiber optic supplied from my ISP, all my rooms in the house is newly wired with cat6 utp. My server intention is to be a file server for backups, movies and music to LAN network, and to run Subsonic music streamer to the WAN.
I just thought i could take benefit the extra nic's with getting better performance and speed in my LAN and WAN.

so you have 4 NIC ports in the ASG and the ASG (in Webadmin or con commandline with ifconfig -a) whosw all 4 ports eth0-eth3?
Then where do you see a problem with the driver?

ABout the Link aggregation: you cannot do much wroing on the ASG - just go into the lInk aggregation menu and activate it, there is not very much to configure.
Yowever, if you are unfamilier with link aggregation in gerneral, it will be probably not so easy to correctly configure the centOS to do what you want it to do. Before investing much time into configuring LACP and so, I would ensure your ASG is indeed able to route 2 gigabit of network traffic (i.e. the hardware is performant enough. So I would use OPE NIC at first and do some speed measurements, if you see the server HW is not able to route 1 GBit/sec then you don´t need LACP :-)
