Setup help for Pogoplug

Yes I believe it assigned a 192... address, how can I change that, I am not an expert in this configuration but rather a beginner. Thanks

I will check my DSL modem and find out if I can change it. How do I have to configure the Astaro external interface to work in bridge mode with the modem?

Bridging the Internal and External interfaces is straightforward, but the DSL modem certainly can be put into bridge mode, and that's preferable for a lot of reasons.  You'll probably need to change the External interface type to DSL instead of standard ethernet.

The modem is where the actual bridging happens. Depending on how your ISP configures the modem in bridge mode you'd select one of the PPPoE/PPPoA/DHCP modes for your Astaro's external interface. You'd have to talk with your ISP about how they setup bridge mode modems to determine which mode you need to use.

Thank you for your help, since my DSL modem had the Bridge mode blocked I had to upgrade the firmware and now I got it configured in Bridge mode and got internet connectivity but still no connection to the Pogoplug servers

I got this answer from Pogoplug support after they reviewed my logfile I sent them. This is what they advised me to do:

It looks like Astaro software scans all http traffic.
Try the following:
1) Setup a DHCP reservation for Pogoplug using MAC address translation.
2) Also, do any additional setup you usually do for your devices to which you've assigned static IP addresses.

If you're running the HTTP/S Proxy in "Transparent" mode, then you might want to use the reserved IP to create a host definition in the 'Transparent mode skiplist' on the 'Advanced' tab of 'HTTP/S'.  That will prevent scanning of outbound HTTP traffic from the Pogoplug.  I didn't see anything about that in the documentation I looked at yesterday, so I'm not sure why Pogoplug support is worried about port-80 traffic.

Thank you for this advise, the exception worked and now I can connect, I really appreciate this. Since I bridged the DSL modem I start getting tons of failed SSH
login attempts which I didn't get before. Does it mean that the Astaro is now
visible and more exposed to attacks? is there anything I can do to eliminate it? Also I already downloaded V8 but have not attempted the installation. Is there any issue using my current configuration files or can I just save it and then load it after I install the new version and be up and running again just like it is now? Thank you for your expert advise, I appreciate it so much

I wanted to add to the failed SSH login attempts of which I got  already over 100 e mail notifications. Is there a way to limit the login attempts and the lock the Astaro web login for maybe 1 hr. This is getting totally annoying and my e mail gets flooded with the notifications all day long now.

You should immediately go to 'Management >> System Settings' 'Shell Access' and take "Any" out of 'Allowed networks'!

Only include specific IPs you want to allow access.  For customers' installations, I normally include only Astaro Support IPs, My company's primary public IP and their internal LAN.  Then I leave access disabled.  It's only turned on when Astaro Support connects to WebAdmin and enables it to do work at the command line.

Also, remember that Astaro is a "stateful" firewall, so you normally don't need to have any packet filter rules allowing unrequested traffic in.  The Pogoplug is one exception.
