QOS in v5

Yes, if you are running a web server just boost the QoS for HTTP definition for the web servers traffic in the packet filter.

 

no i do not have a web server...

my QOS rules i had in 4.021 were:
Internal Network-http-any-high
Internal Network-https-any-high
Internal Network-ftp-any-low
Internal Network-ftp_control-any-low
INternal Network-smtp-any-low
INternal Network-DNS-any-high

etc etc etc
I had ftp, http, https, dns, ping, ftp_control, smtp, pop3 among others all setup in priorities i wanted.  Can i do that in asl5?  Not prioritize individual machines but the individual protocols..
 

Yes, but there is no point.  QoS works on OUTBOUND traffic only.  You cannot control the rate data is sent to you.
 

i know and understand that..for my application here it was and still is very useful(since i have 128k upload if i was uploading a file to my website totalling several megs..while i was doing that nobody else would be able to surf..by prioritizing ftp and ftp_control as low they would get reduced when http, https, dns..etc etc would get initiated) so it makes prefect since....so does v5 support prioritizing of protocols or not?..[:)]

I jsut tried it..and it had no effect whatsoever.  I started an ftp upload....then i tried to surf..which of course was painfully slow due to the ftp hogging all my upload.  I have my upload speed set to 120 kilobits instead of 128(helped v4 lots) also tried it at 128.  no effects..under v4 i could start an ftp upload then when any other traffic was initiated i could watchmy ftp program go from transferring 128 kilobits a sec to 5kilobits and all other traffic went as normal. IN v5 it is not working..i am wondering if i have something set wrong.

QOS works fine. You have to accurately define your outgoing upload bandwidth, then assign priorities via the packetfilter, which is new vs. v4 which had a specific qos section that seemed to confuse everyone. 

i did accuratly define my upload venom...i think i found my error..it was not accuratly defining my destination... also is there nay particular reason for your hostility towards me on the forums?  Did i offend you in some way?

not at all. I just sometimes get frustrated by your apparent distaste for astaro and how the company and developers choose to do things. They've always been good to us, so i feel it necessary to give positive opions in topics where poeple are whining away. Call up netscreen or cisco and ask for a "home user" version of their enterprise product, with forums support, if you dont beleive me. [:)]

I have no distaste for the company in general but i have issues with some choices.  I am merely voicing my opinions..Astaro does snot have to listen.  There are others that have more apparent distaste than myself.  However, this is a very superior product from anything else i have tried.  

Since some positive feedback is wanted:
v5 even with the restrictions they have had turned out to be a screamer.  It take s abit to get going but once it does it flies.  I have done http proxy file transfer tests on my machine and have seen a 25-35% increase in file transfer performace and a 30% reduction in memory usage.  This software has some bugs(everything does am not expecting perfection) and so far it is pleasing ot use.
